There is too much competition these days. It is so much harder to win multiple majors then it was in Jack's day. Think about how many more people the game of golf is available to now. Insane

But Jack faced Palmer, Player, Watson, Ballesteros, Trevino, etc. in their prime. The number of competitors were fewer but the quality was high.

And Tiger will have faced Phil, rory, ernie, vijay as well. This top is still elite. Going forward I think winning golf tournaments will become even harder. There are so many players now that can win

I honestly wouldn't rule tiger out completely. Might be a good time to buy low on him.

I really think if he can remain healthy (looking like a huge if), he will win a few more majors. Unfortunately he pretty much gets injured every few months now.

Most people dont. I personally think we should look at every thing because I am not a simpelton, but who knows. I personally think the Players should hold the most weight. It is by far the hardest golf tournament to win

Im sorry, but if your argue the amount of players with talent are even remotely close, I have to call bullshite. The top 10 or so is even for both eras, but the quality depth is like comparing apples to rockets

Yeah, I mean... I don't expect that it will happen, but I don't want to say anything is impossible for him. After all, he's the most dominant golfer of all time (Before injuries took their toll).

It's safe, don't see Tiger doing it with all the competition out there.

Golfers back then didn't have the same advantadges that the amount of golfers have today... From top to bottom there is NO question about the talent gap between today and years back... Equpiment,Fitness and such things as that.... If you want to call Tiger the greatest ever by virtue of his whole resume... Go ahead........ from like 1999 till 2003-04 he dominated the sport like nobody ever has....

Yes. And Jack did it with persimmon woods while pulling a trailer to events (at least in the early years).

His competition across 4 decades included giants and legends: Palmer, Boros, Casper, Player, Trevino, Miller, Floyd, Watson, Ballesteros - to name just a few.

I don't think Tiger - with drivers the size of toasters made of space age technology and the economy of a small country funding support entourages - faces(ed) nearly the type of consistently dominant and dynamic competition that Jack did.

Jack didn't. He only cared about 4 tournaments every year.

Sure, he tried to win every event he played, but I doubt that he lost any sleep if he finished top 10 at the LA Open.

This was my only point. I dont think anyone can reach 18 now because it is just too hard

I honestly have Tiger and Jack even. I like how Jack has more majors, and Tigers 6 more tournament wins arent enough to overcome the major gap(if Tiger could push tournament wins to 90+ then it would IMHO). What makes tiger even with Jack though is that 7 year run......... remarkable

I call bullshite. He obviously put more focus on those 4, but those guys absolutely ferociously want to win every tournament. Winning to Tiger and Jack is a drug, you cant turn that on and off

I didnt realize Tiger was the only one with the new technology

Names like Mickelson, Mcilroy, Singh, Els, Scott, Watson will be just as popular in golf lore in 40 years.....

I hear you but I'm not talking about lore, I'm talking about records of accomplishment - majors and tournaments won, placed, and showed.

Regarding the equipment, yes that variable applies to everyone in a given subset.

However, longer driving distances, for example, can be a function of technology - club, ball, course, physical-conditioning designs. If today's players had to step back into the parameters of Jack's prime (60's and 70's), I'm not convinced they would amount to much, as a group.

I think the likes of Tiger, VJ, and Phil would compete well. I do like McIlroy's chances of getting to 10+.
