Don't get your hopes up too much. I like the roasted duck. Very unimpressed with the beef tartare and oysters maison. I've had mediocre food with mediocre service one time and mediocre food with good service another time. If you sit on the balcony and have a few drinks it should be enjoyable. It's better than most of the touristy places in that area.

Dang...so mediocre food both times, huh? You think it's worth switching the reservation to Dickie Brennan's? (We have a gift card, so trying to go to one of them).

I would recommend going across the street to Doris Metropolitan..

We did Doris about a month ago and was thouroughly impressed. Like I said, just trying to use a gift card we have to the Dickie Brennan's establishments.

No, unfortunately Mr. B's ad Ralph's is with the Ralph Brennan group, so different gift cards. This one is for Tableau, Dickie Brennans and I think Palace Cafe

My parents went a good while ago. They weren't impressed enough to consider returning. I can't recall what they had, though. It may have improved since then. They didn't declare anything bad. It just underwhelmed.

Have you been to Dickie Brennan's? You might enjoy that one more, perhaps, although I do like the idea of the balcony in nice weather at Tableau. Neat location for a balcony dining.

Pretty sure that is the consensus.

How many more restaurants can the Brennans open with that as a business plan/goal?

I really enjoy Dickie Brennan's, have been there 4-5 times. We were just going to try Tableau b/c we have never been. But sometimes you just have to go back to the places you know and like!

I had a really nice brunch there. Grillades, shrimp & grits and turtle soup. Sad to hear the evening fare is not as well liked.

I just looked at Yelp (obviously my first choice for opinions is this board), and the reviews on the food are very mixed, but the reviews are pretty damn consistent that the service is lackluster.

I can't recall whether there were service problems. The thing is that you can try it and either check it off your list or keep it there for return visits. I'd be very surprised if the food was awful. I also think that some folks might have higher expectations for this restaurant than should be expected. It'd be nice if you would report back to us after your meal, so we can get a good idea of the current status. It was fairly new when my parents went, as I recall.

If GG isn't complaining about service, that means it was great. Trust me.

I went for lunch a couple of months ago. I had a trout dish that was great. Everyone else liked their food as well. Service was good. The renovation is beautiful and a great atmosphere. I think it is worth your checking out for yourself.

You know nothing. It takes a good bit of poor service or something of substance to give a poor service rating. You, on the other hand should hang out more with Zach's wife with that cheese phobia you have.

ETA: Here's what I wrote about Tableau in July 2013, so that was a long time ago.

quote:

My parents went a few weeks ago. The food was fine, but just not impressive. It's not a place to which they would return. My Dad commented that he ordered the Napolean salad which was constructed in such a way that it was very difficult to eat as the dressing was on the bottom. Not much in the way of tomatoes on it, either. It annoyed him so much that he wrote about it on the comment card. He's never written on a comment card in his entire life. Granted, they'd eaten at R'evolution the night before and Peche for lunch the same day. Based on their experiences at those two places, Tableau had two fine acts to follow.
