Looks promising, I'm interested to see how much of this gets off the ground

The way Baton Rouge is run, they'll try to pay for this with new taxes on trailers and malt liquor.

Will be built about the same time the loop will.

I live in one of the affected areas and support it. The new bridges with architectural elements is too good to be true. Much of it will be culled prob.

Like brec spending money continually on consultants for golf who then tell them to shut down the Howell, Dumas, Clark and they ignore it. Then hire another consultant and repeat.

As long as they aren't taking away spots to pull over and slam a ho.

Will they try and deepen the lakes like they did in the 70’s/80’s? That was a cluster frick of epic proportions to say the least. They need to make it much deeper. I can stand up in the middle of the lake.

I'm pretty sure the plan is to dredge and use the material to build up the banks.

I've done quite a bit of water analysis in the lakes. Let's just say they are complete shite

I used to swim in the lakes! I have been all over them and can attest to what you are saying. I also used to hunt and look for dead bodies behind Studio Arms in the pit where they dredged the lakes.

The dredge was a major fail back then, hopefully they have a better company contracted with better technology to get 'er done.

I think BR is at the point that something like this is feasible. Your only real hold ups are regulatory, financial, and the wealthy residents around the lake. Regulatory can be overcome by the same powers that provide the funding. You get approval for one, you get the other. The wealthy residents could be a hurdle though. I don't mean that in a bad way by being like, "I'm jealous of those rich people. I bet they're assholes," but rather the NIMBY contingency is strong in that area. Let's not forget that the residents between Stanford/Kenilworth shot down a greenway along Bayou Duplantier several years back because they thought it would increase crime.

This is a different type of resident, old money and long term/lifer residents who would love nothing more than the lakes and the surrounding areas to improve. A good amount of yards in the area with save our lakes signs in them and a lot of residents have been voluntary cleaning up the lakes themselves for years.

Agreed. I know some of the volunteers and none are youngsters. The lakes need and upgrade and upgraded security, perhaps more officers on bikes.

Some Residents around the lakes freaked out several years back when BREC placed trashcans on the lake side of the roadway.

I'd love to be wrong about the NIMBYs, and I hope I am. BR needs this improvement.

Edit: Added "some." Not all residents.

I do not remember this, just do not see the residents fighting this mater. But like in any neighborhood you will have the NIMBY no matter the issue. The conversation on nextdoor.com on city limit fireworks was very comical in Old Goodwood.

With the amount of people that use the lakes on a daily basis, this seems to be money well spent to me.

i would agree. i think the funding can be had. there are lots of programs to be used to fund this. I'm no longer in the landscape profession, but i'm glad stuff like this is still happening and it still interests me. I'm not in BR anymore either, but this was needed about 10 years ago when they paid for that overpriced study that was done before. Hopefully this overpriced study gets implemented.

The NIMBY people are the hurdle. Old BR folk fear change. i guess Rouzan is still growing and killing their property values right?

I'm not seeing extra pathing that takes people off the streets. If that's not part of the plan...
