Had Ned and Jaime Actually Fought in the Book, who ya got?

No chance would Ned have won.. Oh and wrong board.

Jaime was one of the best swordsman around. I don't think Ned could have swung Ice quick enough.

Ned did beat Arthur Dayne but he barely made it out of that one. And that's when he was in his prime.

But only The Mountain and oberyn martell could've even given Jaime a challenge

I see what you're saying, but Ned's most famous victory was a situation in which he enjoyed a 7-3 advantage, and he STILL barely survived.

By his own admission he would have died in one on one combat against Dayne, who many believe to be Jaime's equal or at least close.

Jaime would have eaten Ned alive. Doubt it would have taken Jaime more than a minute to kill him on a one on one duel. Ned wasn't really all that known for his physical prowless, while really only Barristan Selmy could really compete with Jaime.

Yeah I thibk Jaime would win too. But that's nothing against my boy Ned. It would've been a good fight.

Now if each had an army to command I think Ned's army would win. He was one of the best tacticians in Westeros and never lost when he went to battle.

Well except for that whelp of a whore Cersei.

Ned would have been beaten soundly and it would not have taken all that long. Ned was no expert swordsman. His talent was strategy, government, and command. Jamie was the vastly superior swordsman.

ETA: Oberyn Martell would have put up a good fight as well. That scene in the books and show pissed me off...

Single combat, Kingslayer, no doubt. But, Ned is the guy you want to lead you into battle. Ned was a ruler, a just king. Jaime, before his transformation, a spoiled, entitled killing machine. I think there are good things in store for Jaime, and I am hoping he continues on to his road to redemption - without giving away to many spoilers to you guys who haven't gotten through the whole thing.

And Ned and Jaime briefly sparred at the end of Game of Thrones (first book) and Ned is speared in the calf by one of the Kingsguard before he is taken captive, though I am fuzzy on whether this was TV series only or both TV and book.
