This blog does a great job of listing good bracketologies

The Bracket Matrix in that link is really interesting. Never seen that before, but will use it to keep an idea on the overall feel for where we could end up.

Yep. That is basically what I look at. Actually dropped in a good bit of brackets in last week. Still a solid 8 or 9 seed and we are only left out of 2 of the brackets (75 of 77 brackets).

The guy who puts all the brackets together watches a ton of basketball and does a really good job of keeping everything updated.

Are the brackets predicted on if the season ended today or how the bracketologist thinks the teams will end the year?

The idea of bracketologies are to predict what the bracket would look like if the season ended today.

UGA at an 8 seed?

I know they dont have any "bad losses" but they also dont have any good wins either.

They still look like a great team - maybe 2nd best team in the SEC.

moving down is bad. you can move up and avoid the 8/9 matchup as well.

I'm not sure why we moved down though.

its not even February. Its too early to get caught up in seeding. Just win.

It is fun to see current projections though

We need to avoid the 8/9 trap. I"m going to look up history at some point and determine a plan to get us there.

I made a quick little graph to help show where we are being seeded by everyone using the bracket matrix info:

Already set up an excel to pump out graphs. Will happen.

Will also track movement trends with line graphs.

once we get through the halfway point of conference (2 more games) i think it will be legit time to start focusing hard on bracketology. it's not that far off. This time next week.

Why can't we look at this? All year after a loss people say NIT team or after a win say Elite 8 team... Why can't we have honest discussion on where it looks like LSU will end up?

As long as you aren't looking at teams you will play and just positions that we could end up, it is legitimate conversation. It's what we play for.

I mean people swoon over football polls every damn week, that is all this is, except this actually has bearing on postseason.

Hopefully LSU can keep winning and move up to a 6 seed. That would be about perfect.

Totally agree.

SEC has done exactly what they needed to with 5 teams at 5-2 or better. We have to have the cream go to the top and not have any unsuspected bad OOC teams get to upper parts of the league table.
I think 5 is the limit though. I have a tough time seeing 6, much less two teams from the same conference playing in either play-in game.

I'd be ecstatic with a 6, but 7 or 10 wouldn't be the worst thing ever. As long as we avoid 8/9 and the play-in 11 seed, I'm good.

Agreed. That 08-09 team being an 8 seed and then playing UNC in their backyard was an absolute rook job. This season, we have to not only keep winning, but we also have to avoid any late season slide. The committee has a "what have you done for me lately" mentality.

UK 1 seed

Arkansas - 6 seed

LSU - 9 seed

UGA - 10 seed

Texas A&M - 11 seed

Tennessee - 11 seed

That's my prediction and I am tired of hearing how bad the SEC is (again). While the critics have been correct on this before, this year is much different and last night further proves that. South Carolina has two wins over two top 20 "Big" XII opponents, while LSU -- in the midst of a sloppy-playing portion of the season--beat WVU in Morgantown.

This is as deep as I have seen the SEC since the early part of the 2000's and possibly even since the late 80's when 7 teams would make the tourney. The days when Alabama and LSU were consistent tourney-makers and UK was as good as they are now...matter of fact, Arkansas wasn't even in the SEC and UK was on probation a couple of those years and we STILL landed FLA, Bama, Vandy, UGA, LSU, UT, and Miss State into the tourney between the years of '89-'91.

I haven't seen a bad team in the SEC this year, after finally seeing them all play. Auburn is very athletic and what team wouldn't want Bowers/ What team wouldn't want Williams III from Mizzou or the physicality of a Carrera from SC? A 3 baller like Riley Lachance from Vandy? Those 4 guys alone could be all SEC if they wanted to be. That's how talented the league is. Everyone knows the Harrison twins, M&M, and the big time players that have been exposed nationally. Every SEC team has a superstar and believe me, I remember the days when Auburn and Georgia and even LSU had nothing but "walk-on" type players.

Much like the overrated football in the SEC this season (and I never thought I would say that), the basketball gets treated with the same brainless and empty thought instead of true analysis. It may have the polar opposite outlook, but it's just as easy to say "LSU/Georgia/Alabama/Auburn is not a basketball school as it is to continuously chew cuds and spout off, "So and so (top 5 team) wouldn't win 8 games if they were playing football in the SEC!" I hope my six predicted teams get ion because each one is a nightmarish matchup for many teams. Georgia, for example, is as strong and fast as anyone. A&M can push people around. Tennessee is gifted with pure basketball prowess as much as any team. LSU arguably has the best 3 and 4 in the country. Arkansas looks quite a bit like the end of the Nolan/40 minutes of hell days. I'll go out on a limb and say that 4 of these 6 will also be in the Sweet 16.

UNC in their backyard

The committee made a point to stop the home games for tourney teams after what LSU did to Purdue and Memphis in 1986 (and who in their right minds rewards an 11 seed?). I do not see how Duke and UNC playing in Raleigh or Greensboro or Charlotte is any different. It sends a message of favoritism because the 1 seeds who do not play in the state of North Carolina usually do not get a true home advantage. Then, there's the Sweet 16, but that's how it goes if Kansas makes it past the first two rounds and gets to play in Kansas City, MO...at least they earned it.

I know it has little to do with LSU, but giving the Tobacco schools an advantage when they clearly don't need one in the first place needs to stop. If Greensboro consistently gets a bid, then send Duke to Atlanta or Louisville or Ogden phreaking Utah. That '09 LSU team gave NC a big run for their money and part of me believes had that game been played in Milwaukee or Tucson or Jacksonville, that's you would have seen a different result.
