so far only an estimated 3% of signatures have been thrown out because they’re invalid.

the overwhelming majority of signatures have been verified and that her office is on track to complete the process by the end of February. Theoretically, that would be in enough time to place the incorporation issue on a May ballot.

On Wednesday evening, however, the Metro Council voted 8-3 to approve hiring local attorney Mary Olive Pierson to fight the incorporation effort. St. George organizers and several council members objected to Pierson’s contract, which has a $40,000 limit. In a statement released after the meeting, St. George spokesman Lionel Rainey says: “Tonight’s Metro Council vote sets a very dangerous precedent. They said it’s OK to interfere with the democratic process if they don’t like it. That’s terrifying.”

Whats wrong with ppl using the democratic process to achieve their goals? They (SG organizers) submitted a petition with enough signatures for an election. If the RoV verifies those signatures, what is wrong with an election?

Republicans want their own school district and Democrats don't want to give up the associated tax revenue.

If you get incorporated, yes.

What if incorporation also increases your property value, so much so that it covers the increase in property taxes? Seems like a net win to me.

One seems like speculation. The other seems like 100% certainty.

People who are in BR would be desperately trying to get out. It would have to raise the home values in BR. Along with all the outlying areas.

Your right, ppl will want to move out of BR to get to somewhere with good public schools without having to go all the way to ascension parish. Your property should be worth more.

No.

And there is a very good chance that school district never happens.

How about this certainty, if St. George doesn't pass, me and my tax $ will be moving out of EBR.

Right. Couldn't possibly happen. Like Zachary. And Central. And my higher property values.

Yup.

There may be statewide support for this, but parishwide support looks questionable at best. Need both for this to happen.

I love how people were bitching about St George because it would jack up property taxes while at the same time Kip was wanting to jack up property taxes on the whole parish.
