The trends have quickened as industrialization and technology have advanced. I don't know whether to decry this, or not.
Certainly Egypt and ancient China will have different ideals, partly based on locale and climate. But we go from thousands of years in a span, to hundreds, now to decades.
I think the "Golden Age of Hollywood" example girl is a bit too heavy. Certainly they weren't all built like her, and even Marilyn Monroe was not this big.

Han Dynasty and Ancient Egypt are pretty solid. I'm surprised.

True. A size 10 when Marilyn Monroe was at her peak is around a size 6 today.

And look at some of the Life Magazine spreads of her. She talks about what she eats (a lot of chicken and brown rice) and she also stuck to an actual exercise regime. But the lards and their lovers who sit on the couch all day scarfing down potato chips would have you believe that she was pushing 230.

Egyptians aren't black.
ETA: The more I think about that, the more (unnecessarily) pissed I get. Like when Al Sharpton said this: "White folks was in the caves while we was building empires. … We built the pyramids before Donald Trump ever knew what architecture was."
Um, no.
And stop saying Jesus was black, too.

It is a myth that Marilyn Monroe, for example, was a BBW.
I'm not saying if this is true or not, cause I honestly don't know, but here is some information about the "golden age" that provides a little insight.
quote:
The Golden Age of Hollywood lasted from the 1930s through 1950s. During that time, the Hays Code was in effect, establishing moral parameters regarding what could or couldn’t be said, shown, or implied in film. The code limited the types of roles available to women, creating an idealized version of women that, for the first time, was spread around the world. Movie stars at the time, like Marilyn Monroe, flaunted curvier bodies with slim waists.
Also, here is a link to a book excerpt pertaining to women of the 30's and their figures: LINK
Here is a site that lists her size and weight according to her dresses that have been preserved (no citations listed to prove anything though): LINK
quote:
So what size was Marilyn Monroe actually? Luckily, many of her dresses, carefully preserved, are still around to measure off of. Further, one of her dress makers also chimed in with exact measurements he took. Those measurements were 5 ft. 5.5 inches tall; 35 inch bust; 22 inch waist (approximately 2-3 inches less than the average American woman in the 1950s and 12 inches less than average today); and 35 inch hips, with a bra size of 36D. Her weight fluctuated a bit through her career, usually rising in times of depression and falling back to her normal thereafter, but her dressmaker listed her as 118 pounds and the Hollywood studios tended to list her between 115-120 lbs.

Ancient Egypt had the right idea.

Throughout history men have seeked out fat women.
Lol. Back then, if you were fat, that meant you were rich. Nowadays, our poor are the fat ones.
Also: Thigh Gap? Guess people today prefer a large snapper on their ladies.

Another myth.
Agree. Just look at the number of prostitutes operating in London during the latter half of the 19th century.

Ahem...
Look up the Kingdom of Meroë and you will notice a number of Egyptian peoples residing further south along the Nile River were indeed more reminiscent of Sub-Saharan Africans than Arabs.

The Kingdom of Kush conquered Egypt for a time. They weren't Egyptians any more than Spaniards became Aztecs when taking over in South America.

LOL @ Egyptians being black.
Take a look at Hota Kotb- she's the only currently Eqyptian I can think of that most people know as a point of reference. Now imagine her skin tone a little lighter. THAT is what the ancient Eqyptians "looked like". Eqyptians have NEVER looked like sub-Saharan Africans.
