Is that similar to a hernia?

It is a hernia , an exposed umbilical hernia.

There is a term for it but a hernia can get to a point where it pinches off flow thru the intestine.

Strangulation, they call it or a "strangulated hernia" - although it would be considered a fairly rare occurrence in the west - a strangulated hernia can become a life-threatening condition, particularly if it involves more than just fatty tissue in the area of strangulation/encapsulation.

Not yet seen a doctor but probably going to call today..ive had this issue for two weeks now, just thinking it was stomach bug or food poisoning. Being it really hasn't improved and pain is worse I am certainly going to get it checked out.
It actually started with nausea and vomiting two weeks ago, which is the reason I thought it was bug or poisoning

Go see a doctor now. It could be a multitude of things. Have them check your balls as well.

I had an Ingunial hernia two years ago. I was trying to lift a heavy object. Due to the company that I worked for there was a lot of red tape to go through to put it nicely. It took the company over two months to finally agree to let me have surgery. In those two months I kept working but I can tell you this it's one of the worse pains I have ever felt. I was walking very slow couldn't get comfortable much less get a good night of sleep.

The pain felt as if someone was gripping and pulling downwards on your balls and massive pain on the side of my body.
When I went to the doctor he told strangulation could occur but most likely wouldn't.

Going in to the surgery my nurses sang bob Marley three little birds
But when I woke up the pain obviously hurt.
The first day I walked and moved around a lot
When using the bathroom do not push or force yourself to go.
I have had kidney stones and a hernia is runner up to those things.

Had one in the lower abdomen right next to the cock n balls. Was just prior to laparoscopic procedures being the in-thing so ended up with about an 8" incision. Imagine the ladies' disappointment when they find out what is 8" and in my pants...pffft.

But really, wasn't terrible. I could lay on my back and push the mass back into my abdomen...when I stood up it would pop right back out. Was freaky shite.

The most important thing you will hear in this thread is this get a second opinion.
First doctor did ultra sound and told me it was umbilical hernia and was very small.

Second doctor I explained my symptoms and told him what first doctor said.
He said stand up pull your pants down and he felt my balls which is the only way to tell if it's Ingunial hernia which is most common. I had very large hernia.
When you stand the force of gravity allows the doctor to see if it is a hernia or not.
Good luck man

I went and saw a general surgeon last week because my primary doctor discovered a ingunial hernia during a routine exam. The surgeon said the surgery wasn't necessary at this time because it is small and causing no pain or problems. Never knew I had it. He said it could take a year, ten years or possibly never for it to get big enough to warrant a surgery.

Exact thing just happened to me. I talked with the surgeon yesterday and he told me basically the same thing. If it's small and doesn't cause any pain other than a little soreness at times, it's best just to watch it...not lift heavy objects, etc. This is probably the most common surgery that is done and some Docs will do it when it's not really necessary. I prefer a surgeon that is up front with you about your options.
