What were your symptoms? how long did you experience them before going to doctor? How was the recovery if surgery was needed?

TIA

Exposed umbilical that I never knew I had. I was 25. Minor surgery to have it repaired.

Was up and walking the next day. Full recovery about a month.

Is that similar to a hernia?

Yes, I have. Get it correct early so it is a minor surgery. If you let it go too long, it will become much more detailed.

If minor...same day. Good luck.

Besides swollen abdomen what were your symptoms? Gurgling stomach? Clear fluid while trying to shite? Constipation?

Had hernias on each side of groin... Same day surgery and was out for 10 days each time... Best bet [IF in groin] is to make sure you clean out your bowels before sugery... The pain killers they give you will constipate you..AND[VERY IMPORTANT]. Do what Doctor says and lift NOTHING......Walk walk walk after the 2nd day at home.. The day of surgery isn't bad. Its the day after That sucks so bad.........

I had one in the groin area, but I don't remember which type. It required a mesh repair. Pretty easy surgery. Shouldn't of taken as many pain meds as I had severe constipation.

Take as little of the pain meds as possible and down the stool softener.

I had direct inguinal hernias on both sides. The second one was not really presenting itself obviously when I had the first surgery done.

There are different types of hernias, of course, but an inguinal typically presents as a reducible lump in the lower abdominal area, typically to one side (or on both sides). That's what I had - perhaps an occasional nagging abdominal pain, like when lifting weights or heavy exertion, but it was picked up by a doctor for a routine army physical.

There are various options for surgery, including laproscopic and with some large hernias, they were putting meshes in - I think there has been a lot of walkback from that, though, as the surgeons are getting sued for bad devices. Not sure how common the meshes are now. I had the traditional abdominal surgery on both sides, about 4 years apart.

Recovery was a bear. The acute soreness passed in about a week and that's about how long before I wasn't terrified to cough or sneeze (and I believe I probably developed the hernias through major coughing fits when I had bronchitis a few times in the mid aughts). I couldn't believe the fatigue - it was almost like a preview of being really old or really chronically ill. But, about 6 or 8 weeks I was back doing most things without limitation. I waited 12 weeks to start lifting weights again.

I have one at the top of my stomach. I get acid reflux if I don't take prevacid.

Yes.

Enlarged balls.

Recovery not bad at all. I was probably about 22 or 23 when I had it.

I've had two.
First was in my scrotum. Never had any pain. Just noticed a mass down there one day. Minor surgery.

Second was in my pubic area. It hurt like hell. Minor surgery for it as well.

Recovery for both was +/- a month.

thanks for all the quick responses, I've had all this symptoms of pain that are associated with a hernia but, I've also had constipation and the clear liquid when trying to poop. Bowel movements haven't been normal going on two weeks now

Wondering if the constipation is related

I had two in the groin area fixed with a mesh last June. Same day surgery. I walked hunched over like an elderly man for about 3 days, but it wasn't bad. Getting up from a chair and out of bed for a few days involved soreness in your core. At 8 weeks the doc pronounced me free to do anything fitness-related.

I echo the person who said not to go a long time without getting it fixed. The surgery can be more involved if you procrastinate. I waited 9 months.

Yes, umbilical hernia.
Sharp pain above the belly button. Made the mistake of checking it out and applied a little pressure to it. Went to the doctor the next day. Outpatient Surgery 2 days later. 2 days before I was walking around. Full recovery about 3-4 weeks.

All of what everyone else said. Plan on 3-5 days of hating to get up from a reclined position. Pain meds will constipate you. Avoid like an ex-wife coughing and especially sneezing for at least a week after surgery.

Have you seen a Dr about this yet? There is a term for it but a hernia can get to a point where it pinches off flow thru the intestine. That's pretty severe and needs immediate attention.

This is vital.. Unless its some kind of bacteria in intestines....My hernias were the type that poked out when lifting and bending certain ways... The longer you wait the worse the recovery.......

Not yet seen a doctor but probably going to call today..ive had this issue for two weeks now, just thinking it was stomach bug or food poisoning. Being it really hasn't improved and pain is worse I am certainly going to get it checked out.
It actually started with nausea and vomiting two weeks ago, which is the reason I thought it was bug or poisoning
