Unless deer start eating pine straw

Sorry you picked poorly, there are absolute studs west of Montgomery (and SE for that matter) along the river and the few remaining agricultural areas.
Definitely not what it used to be like in the 80s though, pine plantations dominate what used to be soybeans.
That said, you can definitely find better opportunities along the MS River in either state.

Is Bent Creek still in business they used to have some nice bucks that I remember? my fil at the time used to smoke some pretty nice deer in the late 90's to mid 2000's.
I remember Leo setting us up with some private school hunts in Choctaw County, and the landowners had some amazing properties for us to hunt with plenty of deer on them that was money well spent for me I had great time with those guys .

What? That is some of the best hunting in the SE. You probably went right after the rut. They go into hiding after all the sex.

Yes Bent Creek is still in business. We hunt next to them. It's been a slow year for all of us in that area.

Where did you go and how much did you spend?

A few years ago my company booked a trip with Whetstone or some such plantation and took a bunch of clients. Supposed to be badass with big deer running everywhere. Biggest gar hole ever. Basically like one of the pine thicket clubs around here, but with less deer. Complete shitshow.

Wilcox County is money. Do your homework on who you book with.

Why go to gump land when u can stay here or go to any of the three states bordering us and shoot better deer. Gump land isnt what it was 10-20 years ago for deer, I am sure it still has its pockets but nothing enough to make me do a paid trip there.

Why do y'all think I drive from B'ham to SW TN every weekend of deersz season?

Bama being overrated at something?
what else is new

That's the purpose of the PSA. It was a free trip so I didn't lose anything but time, but if I was paying for this crap I would be pissed. I'm sure some deer get killed here but I would never want to come to these pine farms again.

JD sorry you had a bad experience, but Barbour County is not in the Black Belt of Alabama. I don't know much about the east side of the state, but the area south and west of Montgomery is usually loaded with big deer in large numbers.
