For the most part:

quote:

NASCAR won't change its new championship format, which chairman Brian France said Monday is "overwhelmingly popular" with fans

quote:

France called it "perhaps the best Chase ever" and said the excitement will carry into this season.

quote:

One change coming into 2015 will be that NASCAR will no longer permit teams to alter their car's side skirts during a race. The practice was widespread last season, and NASCAR took no action against teams.

Maybe one day winning races throughout the year will mean something again.

When you have a guy that didn't win a race all year still in the hunt down the stretch it's flawed. Just my opinion

When you have a guy that didn't win any races at all winning the whole shebang, that's a bigger flaw, IMO.

There's always going to be an element of points racing. It's so much harder to do under this format than it used to be.

I'm sure Gordon will be fricked over once again.

Wouldnt Gordon have 2 more titles in the old system?

Also, since certain tracks are better for certain drivers it certainly creates a homefield advantage for some drivers in the Chase.

If the NASCAR rotated the tracks ran in the Chase (and yes I'm aware of the logistics of it) I'd be more of a NASCAR fan.

Huge Gordon fan, but he fricked himself over by underestimating BK's desperation/stupidity.

Cancel the chase and return to pre-chase points system with no locked in qualifiers.

The downvotes start already.

This system fixes several things:
- All races are equal, no complaints about chase tracks
- Teams will start gambling for wins once they are out of the championship
- No bullshite reactionary changes every year
- No guys having a chance to win championships just because they happened to string together a couple top 5's at the very end of the year
- Stops NASCAR from trying to mimic pro sports to just to engage idiot fans

they actually changed a few things up regarding the schedule to help with logistics

ETA: I see you're just talking about the "playoff" or chase races.

If all things remained equal, yes. The problem, though, is circumstances would not have remained equal. Only title I think he would have won would have been 07 the way he was racing.

Yeah, but that's part of any sport.

I would definitely be a fan of rotating the Chase tracks Yeah, it'd be a logistical nightmare, though. They have tweaked it some, including this year.

I'm a huge Gordon fan. But I'm also a fan of the Chase as well. I think it has been good for NASCAR. However, the 24 would have racked up cup number 7 by now if not for the Chase.

Tough luck, though. JG will always be a Top 5 in terms of performance and what he did to broaden the reach of NASCAR.

I'm torn with the Daytona 500. Hasn't carried the same value since the playoff format. Still important, but slightly devalued.

I hate the Chase. My solution would be to double the points earned in the last ten races.

Daytona is as important as ever

Hell, I'd wager ever moreso now than in the past, tbh.

I think the Chase is stupid. You could have a driver who hadn't won a race all year sneak into the Chase and suddenly get hot at the right time. While, at the same time, you could have a driver who had dominated the circuit for the entire season suddenly go into a cold streak at the wrong time.

If you are going to do the Chase you need to reward success that was gained during the season. It's no fair for a guy who won 7 races to be reset to the same 3,000 points that some driver with 0 race wins has.

So, just like most major sports with a playoff? The '07 Pats say hi...

And you do realize that under the old system you can have a driver not win a race all year and win it all or be very much in play down the stretch, too.

Like rewarding for wins, which the Chase does.

Just as fair as a low seed knocking off a favorite in the playoffs in any other sport. You gotta bring your A-game with the title on the line, not just points race/sandbag all year long.

I feel that Daytona doesn't impact the championship the way it use to. Meaning that winning the Daytona 500 helps you get into the playoff, but isn't part of the equation for winning the Championship. What was great about the Daytona 500 was the fact that it was the starting point to the year as well as a wildcard. The year could start off as a disaster or a triumph depending on the one race. Now with the rule change, win and you're essentially in the playoff, finishing 2nd or 43rd seems to carry the same weight. Old days finishing 43rd was a disaster to start the season. Now win the 2nd race and you're playoff bound.
