This has been discussed on here many times, but I was on campus the other day and found myself staring at the building. It is horrible. Not only is it an ubly giant cube planted squarely in the middle of the old quad, it is obsolete and outdated. So what are the options? The best one has to be to tear it down, restore the quad, and build a new library elsewhere.

1. Tear down Lockett and build library there. Problem: the triangle on which Lockett sits appears too small.

2. Tear down the Huey Long Fieldhouse. I mean, since it's just sitting there rotting, why not? Lot size is plenty big enough, and location is good.

3. The master plan calls for relocation of the physical plant facilities west of Taylor Hall, and creation of a new south quad. There is a lot of room there. Put it there and make it big and spectacular.

4. Level Hodges-Hatcher-Johnston and put it there. Lots of room and it would be in a very visible spot next to Tiger Stadium. Could be a landmark.

Just sayin.

You want to tear down the whole building just because you don't like the way it looks?

It would only cost another $50 million to demo/rebuild the structure instead of just tearing it down to the skeleton. Not my money, so why the frick not?

Aren't they planning on renovating this?

Tear it down.

If you took in the parking lot and made it 5 or 6 stories, you might could squeeze a library in there.

Not gonna happen, they are fixing to start renovating it (it needed it that place was a dump in '12).

Taylor hall? CEBA? That is too far from the center of campus.

I actually think building it where Lockett is would be the best. Just as long as they don't try any modernist crap there.

Jindal wants to cut like $300 billion from the higher education budget. Spending that kind of money simply for aesthetic reasons is stupid.

Tear it down, no question.

Not just for "aesthetic reasons". If the people was 1 year old and looked like crap, people wouldnt be suggesting tear it down.

It's just old and outdated and embarrassing compared to the facilities at other Universities.

A brand new library needs to be built regardless, even if it isnt torn down.

Year down Middleton, Lockett, and the Huey Long Fieldhouse. Make them new parking lots. Voila.

Just curious, I was at LSU in the mid 90's when the library was essential for info. Just how needed is it now when most everything is at your fingertips.
