Would Like Some Advice on LA Concealed Carry/Your Best Pistol for Daily Carry

Good morning friends,
Been saying I would do it for years, I need to finally get my concealed carry. I have a couple of questions I'm certain y'all can answer.
1. I know there's a class/training requirement, but are there any exceptions for military? The State Police website says there's an exception for military small-arms training. To me, this could mean a current range card, which I have. Any insight?
2. If not, are there regularly scheduled classes I can take in North LA? And how long is a course?
3. I got a public intoxication ticket in college; I paid a $50 fine and it never kept me from getting a commission or security clearance in the military. Is this something you think I should worry about?
3. Figured I'd mesh 2 thread into one; What do you think is the best daily-carry pistol? I'd like something I can wear under a suit, even in a shoulder holster. I work in a small firm, so there's no issues unless I have to go in the courthouse.
I was always partial to the slim-line Glock 36. I like a .45 and the compact nature of this pistol. Any other suggestions for daily, long-term use?
Thanks, Gentlemen.

Glocks and suits don't mix. Get something with class - a compact 1911..... SpSpringfield EMP in 9 or. 40

Not 100% sure, but I believe everyone has to take the test regardless if military or not. Classes are held all over the state, so you should have no trouble finding one in north la. The public intoxication incident is fine, you have nothing to worry about there, I got into some legal trouble similar to that and mine went through, just be honest about it. As far as which type of gun, that's up to you. I like xds, pps, and shield. They are rediculously easy to carry. Congrats on finally getting around to getting this done. I wish everyone that could, would. Classes are usually 100 and the fees are around 125 if I recall correctly.

Depends on what caliber you want. They make some tiny .380's, the 9mm are a little bigger, and so on. They've got some great deals on a Ruger LCP and LC9 with laser right now on Palmetto State Armory.

1. Military small arms training within the past 5 years will get you an exemption from taking a class.
2. I'm sure the military didn't teach you the civilian rules of engagement in Louisiana. You should take a class irrespective of any possible exemption (might save you a few decades in a Louisiana prison).
3. DWI within 5 years of CHP application is a no-go.
4. Go get a G19.

Get an H&K 45c. LEM trigger. Better gun than the glock.

not nessacairly true. I have a couple of buddies that took the class with me that have gotten a DUI within the last 5 years, and got their conceal carry license with no problem.
4. single stack 9 or .380. I currently carry a XDS 9mm, but after shooting a buddy's sig p938, I will be getting one in the next year or so.

With a leather shoulder harness holster. Classic

If I'm wearing a suit, probably means I'm drinking heavily.

When do you not carry a 1911?
I carry my Kimber Ultra Raptor II. I know, Kimbers suck. I love it.
I know a gun shouldn't be a fashion accessory, but I can't help it. If my suit looks good, I want the gun to look good too.

If you're military and don't mind a bit of discomfort for more ammo capacity, I think Dawg has a good suggestion in the G19. But if you're like me and don't shoot Glocks worth a shite, get something else compact. My M&P9c is one of my main carry guns.
If you want a pistol that is comfortably carried and has just a bit fewer rounds, go with an M&P shield, Springfield XDs, Kahr CM9 (my main carry gun), Walther PPS, or any other quality single stack 9. They are more comfortable to carry but have a bit less ammo. That's a sacrifice you have to determine if you are willing to make.

S&W M&P .40 is what I carry. There are exceptions for the military. If you are only a military resident of LA, you are gonna have to get a LA I.D. card. You don't have to become a resident, just have to get the card.

I'm not saying your buddies didn't get a permit -- I'm just saying what the LSP regulation says. (Maybe they didn't disclose the convictions, maybe they did).
La. R.S. 1379.3 (C)(8)
It shall be presumed that an applicant or permittee chronically and
habitually uses alcoholic beverages to the extent that his normal faculties are impaired if the
applicant has been found guilty of, or entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere to operating a

as an alcoholic, within the five-year period immediately preceding the date on which the
application is submitted, or at any time after the application has been submitted.
