Does anyone recommend a free (or reasonably cheap) software to scan documents directly to PDF format?

I've tried downloading one in past and it just added on a bunch of junk to my computer and completely slowed it down.

I currently use "Windows fax and Scan" for windows 7 via my cannon 3 in one printer. There is not option for pdf though. Just jpeg, tiff, bmp, jpeg, and png.

TIA.

I just bought a Canon printer/copier/scanner and it came with a utility called MF Toolbox that supports pdf. Check HERE to see if your model number is supported. You may also have this utility on the CD that came with your printer.

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for but you could always scan the file in to whatever format you want and then use a pdf printer to "print" the document to pdf. (Bullzip is a free one I installed on a couple of people's work computer...at least it was free at the time, been a while)

I know it's an extra step, but if your scanner doesn't do it automatically I'm not sure what other option you have.

Either this, a software tool like Layabout posted, or possibly there's a firmware upgrade that includes pdf capability.
