So I had a flight booked, and I get an email indicating that the time of the flight had changed. It was a terrible change and put me landing well past midnight (versus 8pm).

So, I looked into changing the flight. United wanted to charge me $200 per person to change the flight schedule.
However, it looked like cancelling it was only $50.
So naturally, I called customer service and politely asked them to book me on a different flight... and they did, free of charge.

Can someone explain this screwed up process to me?

Rules state if your flight changes by a certain amount of time you can change one time for free. The online system doesn't register that but the phone agents do.

Nothing more. Same with Delta. Have to call for things like that.

I've never had an issue flying Southwest, but I only use them for flights under an hour.

I had booked a flight one morning...it was a Friday and I was planning on flying out sunday. Well by the afternoon I had some change in my plans and had to see If I could push the flight back.

They informed me that I could change the flight ffree of charge since it was within 24 hrs of booking...not sure how true that is, just what the lady from United told me...pretty awesome though. So keep that in mind if yall ever find yourself in that situation.

Yes. They give you 24 hours to cancel for no fee.

Delta is actually midnight eastern the calendar day after booking. Made many bookings at 12:05am to give me nearly 48 hours.
