La’el Collins, LT, LSU

At 6’5", 315 pounds, the LSU product dropped some weight and looks athletic in his movements. Collins has the frame to play on the left side along with the footwork and technique to kick back off the line of scrimmage to win on the edge.

Collins was very active with his hands during Monday's session, and he also saw some time on the right side of the line. I will get a better look at Pitt’s T.J. Clemmings in practice Wednesday, but after the first day, I would call Collins the top prospect at the tackle position in Mobile.

Not surprising. I laughed at those who were projecting him in the lower part of the first round. His stock is going to keep going up. Top 10 pick by the time the draft rolls around. Book it.

Why would anybody want to draft the saints? They suck.

Not having to block 10 men in the box will be a relief

They need an interior lineman more than a tackle at this point. I know he played guard early on his career but I think Collins' athleticism will make him more ideal for playing outside at tackle.

Too many players I'd love to see us scoop up. This would be a great draft to have two 1sts.

I agree. I think he'll be a top 15, maybe top 10 pick.

No way Collins is falling to late part of 1st Round He can play Tackle and Guard. The pass blocking critique is complete BS. I wouldn't be surprised if he falls into top 10.

top 10

As much as I would love for that to happen, I seriously doubt it does. He's not the #1 or even #2 OT in this draft. He will most likely be the 4th OT in th draft, which is mid to late 1st.

And you gotta consider who is a lock to go top 10... Leonard Williams, Shane Ray, Winston, Mariota, Cooper, Gregory, and Scherff are pretty much top 10 locks.

And you do realize the fact that he's somewhat of a tweener between an OT and OG hurts him more than helps him? Guards don't go until the late 1st round at best, usually in the 2nd.

Wherever he goes, they are getting a hell of a player.

He's mauling his way into the top 10. It's pretty awesome.

As the old adage goes...it only takes 1 team.

Not surprising - he had decent draft grades after his junior year.

Tiger fans should recall he took a calculated risk to play in purple and gold in 2014.

Plus, he's an impressive offensive lineman.

Meh - these days, I think it helps a little - the NFL is fairly specialized, but they're roster-limited too, more so than college, so a kid that can credibly play 2 or 3 positions brings value in draft consideration. Not all tackles can play guard (most can) and certainly fewer guards can play tackle in the NFL.

It gives them flexibility if they get a mid-season injury, beyond bringing someone on from the practice squad.

Just hope Saints have a shot at him. He could either take Grubs spot or Streifs next year.

Strief is still solid. If he can come in and start for Grubbs or Evans right away I'd be fine with taking him.
