Question for older LSU basketball fans (following them since the 80s at the latest)

Is 2015 the best recruiting class LSU has ever had?

Obviously Shaq was a force like no other, but does the combination of Simmons and Blakeney w/ Craig Victor joining the team make this class even better than those of the 80s and 90s?

Edit: And I know there is a board for this, but I would rather discuss this with you guys than the recruiting board superstars

Some of Dale's classes circa early 80's were very good. I don't know if there was a single class this good.

I know Dale brought in a ton of great recruits. I just have no clue which ones came in together thats why I was thinking this may be the best. Especially after watching Montverde play this weekend

2015 has the highest ranked players. Shaq was not a highly ranked player before he came to LSU.

S. Roberts was a bigger name than Shaq at the time...

CJ was already here before Shaq and Stanley, by a year.

Will never forget the great(GTown win in the Dome..all the free ShoeTown tix for record crowd)..

And the not so great(unreal Flyin' Illini team that should've won it all..waxed the Tigs in the PMAC)..

Yeah the 1990 class was hard to beat.....Stanley Roberts (Mr. Basketball in South Carolina), Maurice Williamson (Mr. Basketball in Connecticut), Shaq (Mr. Basketball in Texas), and Harold Boudreaux (Mr. Basketball in Louisiana). Then when you add Vernel Singleton and CJ to the mix you have a team that should have been much more successful. That Georgia Tech game in the tourney was a heartbreaker.

Why do I constantly see people say such on the Rant. They only had that season all together as true Frosh, never had time to grow together. CJ left,etc..became Shaq's team.

LSU didn't have nearly the same amount of True Frosh future NBAers that UNC and Ky constantly come up short of winning it all nowadays. And to boot, back then unlike today, outside of the Fab Five's two close calls, it was usually a vet team with 20,21,22 yr olds that won the titles back then.

That GT team had some savvy vets..three-headed NBA punch in scorers.

Rudy Mac, Hi-C Carter and Leonard Mitchell were the standard until Stanley, Shaq and Chris played together. Hopefully, next year's class will be the GOAT... Geaux Tigers. Pete and Petit made their classes great also.

this, plus you add in singleton, who I believe started for 4 years. Hell that's been so long ago, and he always had good talent...but seems like I'm leaving one or two out of that class....I know some were maybe a year apart. It still amazes me that they didn't go farther.....although they did play some pretty good teams in the tourney.

I knew I was leaving out a few....hardly any misses in that group. Griggs a standout defensive player....singleton and his bandaid could jump out of the gym, Williamson could get incredibly hot from outside, Roberts very soft hands and much more polished around the basket at that time than shaq, Boudreaux, Devall, and Hammink all contributors.

.

It was an incredible game between two very talented teams. Back then Ga Tech was also very good. Back and forth, overtime if I remember

He was a very highly ranked player out of Texas, if not the highest ranked player. LSU had several top players out of several states over a two year period. There is no question in my mind that as of now, the 2015 class will need to have a LOT of player production in order to equal either one of those two classes. Almost all of the players in each of those classes were very productive players. Back then LSU played a LOT of highly ranked teams in non-conference games, and it's not like they lost to the school of the blind in the NCAA tourney. It is true, Dale did more with less, but talent wise, those two classes were hard to beat. People that don't know underestimate the likes of a vernell singleton type player.
