We announced that a free upgrade for Windows 10 will be made available to customers running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 who upgrade in the first year after launch

Of course MSFT is going to ditch XBox, but before then -

Xbox Live and the new Xbox App bring new game experiences to Windows 10. Xbox on Windows 10 lets gamers access the best of the expansive Xbox Live gaming network on both Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One. Players can capture, edit and share their greatest gaming moments with Game DVR, and play new games with friends across devices. Games developed for DirectX 12 in Windows 10 will see improvements in speed, efficiency and graphics capability. Players will also be able to play games on their PC, streamed directly from their Xbox One consoles to their Windows 10 tablets or PCs, within their home.

I see I missed the thread in the tech board on this

I thought this would be above the level of that board, to busy with "where is the app I just downloaded on my droid" questions

I like what they are trying to do with Directx 12. It's a shame it always takes so long to catch on. Do any games use mantle anymore?

Streaming Console games to PC. This is where the peasants revolt against the Master Race and enslave them all with our 1080p/60fps.

So this is Microsoft's answer to share play.

I like it, I keep my laptop with me pretty much all the time.

I jumped the fence and snagged a first class seat back home.

I was reading on another board that there is a fear that win10 may have an "annual fee" to keep it licensed and usable.

You sir are right. This was just posted on pcmag

quote:

Myerson clarified that Windows 10 users will still get free updates and support for the lifetime of the OS, exactly like past versions of Windows (like XP and Windows 7's Service Packs, for example). There's no subscription model for updates or support or continuing to use the OS. Myerson's reference to Windows "as a service" simply meant that Microsoft plans to update the OS with smaller, more regular updates rather than the big, chunky updates of past Service Packs.

It's supposed to be out later in the year I think. I will wait for the reviews and bug fixes before I consider it.

My fear is that it will be a one time install, some of us upgrade our machines regularly or change a HDD for an SSD.
