With Denham getting its first Rouses, what are some must trys among their deli items and in house stuff.

Also, was the Rouses in Denham years ago the same as this group of stores?

I'm sure it was part of the same family, but they have some a long ways since then. Hell, that must have been 15-20 years ago.

I would expect a much better store than you remember. The ones down here can vary from store to store as far as set-up and how well they are run, but overall they seem really well run.

Yeah, it's the same group of stores. But they overhauled their model some years ago. They've gone a lot more upscale.

I got some good hogshead cheese there a while back. And they're proud of their fried chicken, king cakes and chicken salad.

The Advocate had an article and it mentioned that the Denham store was the first store outside of their home market (Houma area) and they failed at it because it was too far away and the store was small.

are they building from the ground up? or taking over an existing location?

all rouses are different. The newer ones are really nice (whole food-esq as far as ready-to-eat in store options).

Some of the other ones that just took over in old grocery spaces are not as nice in that regard. The 2 i shop at are like this. There's like a salad bar which is pretty average, they serve a cafeteria style hot lunch, there's sushi, rotis chicken, and some pre made sandwiches and stuff.

Rouse's has a nice wine selection. They have good seafood, meats and poultry. They also have a nice produce selection, at most of the Rouse's I've been to.

Not sure what the focus will be on the new location but I'm sure it'll be a nice store.

Just depends. Ground up will be more like a Whole Foods.

Some good items that they have

10/$10 potato chips
meat sticks
beef jerky
fried catfish when its fresh
chicken salad
smoked fish dip

well if its anything like the one in the CBD in NOLA, you'll have options out the arse. I haven't really eaten there too many times tho, so i dont know anything to recommend

Same family, different business model. The new Rouses isn't just another AG type store. Think of it like a local middle ground (neutral ground for you NOLA types) between a Leblanc's Frais Marche and a Whole Foods. They carry a lot of high quality local and organic items. When I lived in New Orleans, the Rouse's on Tchop was where I bought everything. It's Whole Foods quality at AG store prices.

It is like Alexanders if you have been there. The Rouses I have been in are larger though.

Not sure the size of the one built in Denham.

I always stop at the one in the Belle Chase area when going to a friend of mine, their bourbon selection is very, very good....

Avoid their in-house sausage, it is bland and flavorless. When they do make their own tasso, it's pretty good.
