Anyone else never heard of the coconut crab until now?

Just saw this pop on a fb post and figured "Oh, that's fake, now way that's real"


Nope...they are real....and the stuff of nightmares.

There's an Anthony Bourdain episode in the South Pacific where they eat them. And, apparently they are insanely delicious. It's illegal to export and they can only be eaten in the nations they habitate.

They eat coconuts.......and taste like it

No... if they ever decide to go carnivorous then they'll be the stuff of nightmares.

They're just really big hermit crabs. There's nothing scary about a really big hermit crab.
