The biggest issue here is that the fanbase blasted the AD for speaking out against the 409 thing.

Are you fricking kidding me?

I'm pretty much the only one that posts here. The Hale-Bopp newsletter told us to stay on Penn Live and 247 sports where we could worship Paterno's statue for all eternity.

The people that claim its a cult are lazy and just went with what the first thing someone on espn said when it first broke. I like how espn is the gospel on joe pa didnt do enough but bring up bounty gate and same people say espn cant be trusted and only want ratings.

Yes i know...the two couldnt be farther apart but i know espn didn't go out of their way to help the cuse assistant accused of child rape get his name back.

Enough has come out to show while joe pa did alert the police he could have did more but joe pa wasnt giving him keys and saying rape away.

And its not a cult..every single fan base will do a us against everyone no matter what is going on. They will blame the bad apple and say everyone else is avainst it.
penn state did that...the guy who did the crime is jn jail forever...the coach who didnt rape and didnt cover it up is dead (which is hilarious claim that he was like just keel the rape on the dl...esp since they didnt care for each other).
no one at Penn state now had anything to do with Sandusky being a sick frick but the whole nation wants to point at the students and staff their nkw and act like its their fault. Then cant figure out why a group of people who had nothing to do with the crime come together snd support each other.

Saints fans still think bounty gate is fake despite tape (and plenty dumb nfl fans hate the saints for bounty gate)....defending your team when everyone hates you jsnt cultish.

But if you want something
to stick to a storyet espn say it when thr story breaks and people will use that saying lazily as fact

For the record, I understand what you are saying. And honestly, I think most passionate fanbases would do the same thing as Penn State, which is very unfortunate. Hell, look at how much Florida State defends Jameis. Lots of sports fanatics choose to ignore anything negative about their teams. Penn State is no different in that respect. The big difference is that Penn State protected a child molester.

Lots of schools are fortunate that they never had a child molester because if they did, the media would be calling them a cult too. I truly believe that.

Regardless of what Sandusky did, the fact is that Penn St and JoePa won those 409 games.

To change the record books is just silly.

Should the Patriots forfeit every game that Aaron Hernandez played in because he murdered someone ?

I unfortunately agree with you, I have no problem with the wins being restored.

This is a sign of what is wrong with this world.

People care far too much for an insignificant pastime.

Football is not a big deal.

That's a different situation unless people within the Patriots organization knew that Hernandez had committed those crimes and did not report it.

I think the vast majority of people would have been more willing to forgive Penn State if they had turned in Sandusky as soon as the first reports were made within the AD. Instead, blind eyes/deaf ears were turned. It's not the fact that a coach molested little boys that makes people hate Penn State (for the most part). It is the fact that the university's chain of command managed to lose their way in the process of communicating allegations up the line then never followed up(best case scenario) or made an effort to make sure allegations never came to anything (worst, and apparently real life, scenario).

The idea that anyone can defend those wins being reinstated makes me question humanity. They had a coach who should be in jail on the sidelines. Even ignoring his exact crimes, the university kept a football coach "eligible" by not reporting his criminal activity. If a team played with an ineligible player, no one would question having the wins taken away. However, when a team plays with a coach who should be unable to coach due to be in jail if not for a university cover up, some people think those wins should be protected. Seriously?

I could go on with how that is incorrect, but I will just concede that Sandusky's crimes are worse

What in gods name.

How did this thread not blow up after this post? How was this guy not banned?

If they were found to have covered up for his murder so he could continue to play and win them games? Then yea, they should lose wins that happened after the first cover up.

Joe pa wanted to win, Sandusky helped him do that. So he covered it up and won more games.

That is not true. But don't let facts get in the way of your opinion.

You are right, Joe Pa didn't know. He just thought Sandusky was wrestling naked in the showers with little kids.........

What about the "culture" in your own backyard? How many threads over the last month about Louisiana teachers fricking their students, 3 or 4? That is as much your fault as Sandusky raping kids is my fault. Don't just hate someone you can point your finger at, get educated as to signs you can look out for.

Wow...that's some pharmaceutical grade deflection.

Olbermann nails this...penn St needs to just sit quietly about any aspect of this scandal...there is no win in this for them...and there never will be. I know it must be hard to experience such a hard fall in reputation regarding a college and man that was so respected...but any happiness around removing sanctions just makes it look like the alumni care about football games more than the welfare of children...
