He literally fooled no one...watching a bama defense then watching ours was like going from a ps4 to a 8 bit nintendo. His read and react was about as basic as it gets and his blitzes were as predictable as possible.

his smaller..faster players made us softer in the gut then any defense we've ever had. Our ball control offense skewed the numbers of our defense.

While we were effective against the HUNH offense..none of our players had good enough technique to stay home hold their positions/lanes. He relied on speed.

someone really needs to explain why they think a professional coach can't come up with a better scheme.

can't wait to see some three man fronts...i've always prefered a 3/4. he hasn't said that is what he will run but said he would run both.

Texas a&m against Johnny manziel was always a treat

This year against ULM was probably the most dominant I've ever seen also

I was in awe of how ineffective it was against ND. Does that count?

Defense improved throughout the season in 2014, thought he did a good job until the ND game.

2011 when his players were superior to everyone but Bama.

2011 - but that had a lot to do with Tyrann Mathieu

Against A&M with Manziel. He shut him down both times.

Against Ole Miss this year. Frustrated Bo Wallace all night.

Otherwise, LSU's defense was often very solid - right up until the point that it wasn't and it fell apart.

OT Lounge

Seriously, though. Chavis's read and react defense worked well against Sumlin.

Hard to replace? Nah, but he wasnt the problem. I think his scheme will stuggle severely early at A&M fwiw

You have to admit he was part of the problem. He had some major faults that were consistent.

I acknowledge that Chavis is a good coach, but I've always thought he was very replaceable. His schemes are basic and he thrived on having elite talent. The negative reaction to the Steele hiring is indicative of our shitty fanbase...I'm fairly confident the LSU will at worst be just as effective as we're accustomed to. I think Steele is an upgrade in a lot of ways.

I am not a fan of his defensive scheme, yet it does work when you have elite talent.
