Why does it get so much flack from some people on this board. It was a good storyline imo. By seeing the Wire threads on here, I was prepared for the worst but was pleasantly satisfied with good tv from this season (though I'm only at season 3 episode 3 right now )

It was jarring - the transition from the police/Barksdale organization dynamic to the docks.
The acting and writing had the same quality. IMHO, it was just it seemed so different - and now, people binge watch shows in 3 or 4 weeks, so there is much less time for pause/reflection on the evolving, changing storylines.

main reason is that a lot of people get all caught up in the street/ghetto stuff and feel really white when the story is focused on white people
go read most discussions bout the wire, esp ones where people disagree. this is a very common theme. hell it's so common that people even make a point to start talking street to ensure they keep their edge in the debates

I've always gotten two feelings: 1) that it was a departure, and 2) ziggy was annoying.
I don't think it's because it makes people "feel white". It was just a completely different show, that doesn't usually happen after one season of a show.

I had to watch a second time to realize how great of season it was.

I need to watch it again. I love it, but I didn't love it until the second half. I remember it finally clicking, and I was like "damn, they got me again"

Frank Sobatka was an interesting character imo. He looked out for all of his workers while avoiding the police, deal with his dumbass son, catch shite from his brother, and deal with the Greeks. Things just fell apart for him.
