Anyone done it? I've done IronMan's, all those mud runs, some hefty trail runs and looking for something really insane. My biggest hesitation right now, however, is the price. Most places say to budget like $80K. I have no idea how it would be worth that much money.

Anyone done it or no someone who has?

Start with an easier mountain bro. Try Kilimanjaro first.

I did it with no O2 or Sherpas. It's easy.

Jump out of an airplane without a chute. Figure it out.

It's practically 2 months of your life with guides and food and oxygen, so the price makes sense.

However, given recent issues on Everest and the clusterfrick it apparently is trying to get up, I'd go for another 8000m peak instead.

Or, more feasibly, a challenging route on Rainier followed by Denali the following year. Doing both would be less than 1/4 of the price of Everest, you'd get to flirt with plenty of danger and you'd still be in the top 1% of folks with adventure resumes.

As much as mountain climbing seems fascinating watching the programs about the Everest 96' storms makes you see reality. The interview by Beck Weathers is enough to make a man not want to attempt it.

Go do Baker or Ranier, then McKinley first.

It's real expensive. I hear its something like 20k to be able to do it.

Plus, any mountain where the dead and frozen bodies of failed climbers are literally trail markers is off limits to me.

Any place with "Death Zone" as part of the trip pretty much automatically rules it out as a destination of choice for me.

I've flown over it in Google Earth.

I'd start with some of the higher peaks in the USA, like others have said.

If you really have the itch, then go for it, would be awesome.

No. When I used to climb, I dreamed of trying but it was to cost/time prohibitive for me then and with my right leg ruined due to cancer, my climbing days are done. Highest I ever did was Mt Whitney in California. Did a bunch of Fourteeners in Colorado. I always wanted to try some of the tallest peaks and was planning a Mt Ranier climb when I got sick.

I notice many folks recommending Denali. It has always been my understanding that Denali is more technical climb than the Everest south face and more dangerous. It would definitely be cheaper though.
