Just hung up with a good friend of a huge Bama fan...really supports the program and is an insider. He swears the Steele loss is very troubling to them. Great LB coach, great recruiter, and the "glue" in the defensive staff, per his words. TIFWIW.

glue probably meaning he organizes the recruiting top to bottom to make it easier and is a great LB coach

Must be why they fell apart from 2009-2012

He wasn't there for any of their title runs.

that's funny because 2 of my Bama friends (both diehards) said good riddance.

He was there to put all the players in place.

Those players that were leaders during the championship runs were recruited during his tenure.

Steele will have great talent to work with. If he can't get it done here, he never will.

I know nothing about him, but what I can get from the recent articles and debate is that great position coach and recruiter. The thing that's debatable is whether he can scheme a Defense at this level.

Though he did recruit quite a number of the guys who won the '09 and '11 titles.

I do not think anyone disagrees with the fact that LSU hired a very good recruiter and Bama lost a part of their recruiting machine.

The question is can the guy be a solid DC? Were any Bama fans hoping that Steele replaced Smart? None that I know of.
