Wiggle room on autotrader online used dealer prices?

How much wiggle room in price should I expect when looking to buy an out of state vehicle on autotrader (or cars.com, etc)?
Im in the market for a used A5 under $30k (spare me the OT poor jokes). The inventory for that vehicle is very scant in southern LA, so to get what I want, I will probably have to go fly and pick one up.
I've read the willcover buying method, just not sure how it works online.

No idea, but I tried buying a car once by going through the dealership's website and it was not a good experience. I guess they post an internet price to get you in the door, then put another price in front of you. When you call them on it, they hem haw around.
So I would get some sort of signed agreement on price before boarding a plane.

I have the opposite experience of the last poster. I found the car i wanted for a great price. Tried to haggle, dealer refused to budge. I think with the slew of internet options out there, they are aware of how their prices stack up. I got the online price exactly - they didn't try to screw with me.

LSUjro, was the car out of state that you bought?

I've purchased two vehicles out of state via online neogtiation. The first was with an independent used car dealer that primarily sold over the internet. It was easy.
He dropped the price a few hundred which was fair based on the listing price, I flew up two days later with certified check from my bank and he gave me the car and title.
The other one I purchased was from a dealership. Negotiated on the price but they kept trying to do the same run aroud you get at most dealerships. Took me 4 hours from the time they picked me up at the airport to the time I left the lot. At the end of the day, I got the vehicle for the price we agred upon but I had to deal with all the add ones they try to surprise you with.

I made an attempt to buy a car a few weeks ago. Trying to deal with dealers online is worse than in person these days.
In 2015, shouldn't there be a better way to do this?

yes, bought in TX. it was a certified used bought through a dealer. i found the listing on autotrader, and the price was excellent compared to similar vehicles. they wanted to do the add ons, but i just shot everything down. whole buying process (other than the test drive) was about 45 min. they didn't pressure me to buy anything, just let me know what they offered (which strangely enough included life insurance )

Most dealer prices will be inflexible. They are throwing those prices out there to get you in.
I've bought a couple times. Once from a small dealer that came down 5%. The other was fixed. No movement.

you can figure that most dealers have rough trade-in value in the car...
