Even amongst really good coaches, the ignorance and group think regarding so many fourth down decisions just blows my mind. Even the coaches who know better and admit they should go for it much more than they do simply can't force themselves to do it.

No team should ever punt down 2+ TDs halfway through he 4th quarter. Ever. Even at 4th and 20, your odds of getting a defensive penalty are better than punting and getting the ball two more times.

Yup. Inexcusable. And none of us would do it in a video game. What is it about the big stage that makes the coaches make horrible decisions.

I think the idea of giving the other team the ball on your 20 yard line is just so terrifying that they can't bring themselves to do it.

I'd go for it and if I didn't get it, turn the Xbox off.

It's true, and I hate it.

It shows no real vision or leadership.

Coaches are very very stupid. That is because fans are very very stupid and allow it. Sitting players with foul trouble is still seen as acceptable too.

Coach just can't stomach the possibility of having to watch a 20-yard drive.

I don't wanna get started on foul trouble.

Guy picks up third foul with ten minutes left in second half
Announcers: "uh oh he's gonna have to sit now"

Can't blame the coaches. They simply aren't qualified. Not a single one. Blame the fans who allow such terrible personnel to be hired for such important jobs.

Always been done that way, amazing how coaches, COACHES don't give it any thought.

And your star player ends up playing 22 minutes and only picking up 4 fouls.

Give me 32 minutes and fouling out with 6 minutes left any day over 20 minutes but playing the final 5 minutes.

Agreed. Just let him play until he fouls out. Benching a player for half an hour of real time always kills their rhythm.

I get more upset about fans complaining about the obvious stuff than the coaches messing up the obvious stuff. They don't realize that they are the problem. They condone punting on 4th down. They put incredibly illogical people in a position that puts a premium on logic. Then they have the nerve to complain when things don't go their way.

Anybody who did the slightest bit of research or put a tiny bit of thought into it would have realized what a travesty 4th down coaching decisions are. I can't think of any other industry where such important objectively wrong decisions are accepted. Literally every coach would have lost their job for gross mismanagement in a normal business. Maybe some would have enough brains to adjust once the status quo was changed. It would be a very small portion though.

um no. You missed the point completely. The coaches suck because the beer guzzling idiots sitting in front of their tv w/ their zippers down are the ones approving of their performance.

Those guys who come up with that 4th down data have never gotten in a 3 point stance and went to war down in the trenches!!!!

Exactly the problem. Some asshat always has to stifle progress with some illogical statement like that. I know you are being sarcastic

My favorite is "oh the other team is giving their star players some rest, let me sit my star players and hope the bench plays well instead of exploiting the mismatch."
