"Our goal is to break away from the diocese, form our own, independent school," Greg Callihan said. He did not reveal any additional details about the plan, such as who would be in charge or how it would increase enrollment enough to be financially sustainable, but said those details would be released at a later date

I think they should just let it die. Why throw money at it? People chose not to go there

They need to be their own city first.

Not really. They want an independent school. If the school gets accredited and if they chose to they can join other independents in a district. They are trying to get out from underneath the yoke of the diocese who just wants to pull the plug. At that point they would be truly a "private" school. They could operate as a for profit institution. Hell today there are independent schools popping up everywhere. if the alumni are big enough ballers go for it. I wonder if the name would have to be changed.

The diocese been wanting the school gone since the late 80's.

Verges hates RHS and always has, and all the neglect from her is coming to light.

The RHS alumni fighting for this might be the stupidest group of people I've seen in BR in my life

Blows my mind.

THERE. AREN'T. STUDENTS. ENROLLED.

I don't understand how you can be angry at the diocese or anyone else. Be angry at yourself for not having children there. Be angry at your peers for purposely choosing not to send their children there.

They're asking a school to stay open with empty classrooms. It makes no sense, and they look like massive idiots.

And spare me the whole, "You don't understand! We're a family!!"
I went to RHS. Every single person in my paternal family went to RHS. I grew up attending mass at St. Gerard. Still, without the enrollment, I am not begging for some school that has been going down the shitter to be spared closing.

Well they sure as shite have a lot of work to do. Like academic overhaul, location change, etc.
People in other parts of BR aren't sending their kids to RHS over St. Joseph's, Catholic, St. Michaels, etc.

RHS's main supply of students when it was successful came from Zachary and Central.. who both now have thriving public school districts. These people no longer need to ship their children to Plank Rd. for a lesser education for thousands of dollars a year. I don't know who these bleeding hearts think are going to fill up the school. Are they all raising elementary kids who they plan on putting in RHS or something? Enrollment trends say otherwise.

Exactly. Where did they send their kids?

Most of the outspoken people I've seen so far are too young to have kids.. or too old to matter because they don't have children and are just sad about their old HS.

Translation: "We have no plan as to how the school will be able to operate financially." Nonetheless, we really, really don't want to see Redemptorist closed, and are prepared to operate the school on hopes, dreams and prayers if necessary."

Maybe their plan is to somehow shut down the Zachary and Central school Districts? I understand the sadness from RHS alumni, but the school has just reached the end of it's useful life. Attendance is dropping year after year, and it is located in a rundown part of the city where many of the families can't afford the cost of private tuition. This doesn't speak poorly of RHS, it's just a victim of change.

Change your thread title. It isn't correct. They do not want their own distinct.

Yep. The demographics of the neighborhood cant support it any longer . When I was there in the 90s, a large part of the surrounding area were families that had several generations attend. The area is poorer now and kids aren't commuting in any more.

well I'd imagine these would be things they'd try to accomplish by breaking off.

As an RHS alum, while sad to see it go, its time has come and gone and should probably be put out to pasture. But hey if others want to put their time, money, and energy into keeping it alive go for it.
