Any OT mechanics that can answer a question regarding tie rods?

Was told that I need to replace my inner tie rods on my son's 2002 Ford F-150. Looking at parts online and can only find tie rod ends which look like "outer" tie rods. Do the tie rod ends screw into the sleeve and are the same whether they are inside or outside? I found a schematic online and it shows both inner and outer tie rods, but I cannot find a part that specifically says "inner tie rod", only tie rod end. TIA for any guidance.

I have no direct knowledge of an F150, but the TRE's could be different or the same. Possibly one has a bend.

Yes, they screw into the tierod.

According to rockauto.com, they are different outer to inner. Remember that site, its very useful

EDIT: Looks like side to side makes a difference too. raybestos professional or motorcraft is a good brand to stick with despite the price- those cheap ones are notorious for wearing out within 10k-20k miles

They're different parts. And IMHO if the inners are worn the outers are not far behind. If you're going to be getting an alignment done anyway I would change them all (2 inner L/R and 2 outer L/R) at once and be done with it.

Sometimes the inner tie rods are listed with the steering rack.

Rockauto is a good source if you can wait for mail order. I've used Moog suspension parts on my 1998 F150 with good luck.

Change the inner and outer at the same time. I always change all the ball joints, tie rods, and sway bar bushings if one goes bad.

The inner is contained under the rubber boot coming out of the rack. They require a special tool to remove as well and yes the inner go bad too.
