Buying Corned Beef From A grocery store deli

I've only eaten corned beef at restaurants. Is it possible to buy decent sliced corned beef from a grocery store deli?

corned beef should only be bought if made in-house. Boar's Head and the like are not on the same level.
Best I've ever had outside of an NYC deli was at Fat Hen in Nola. RIP.

Some private delis might make it in house or have a higher quality product. I don't know if Stein's is made in house, but I would assume the quality there would be better than the grocery deli. I haven't had it, though.

Boarshead and Hebrew National both make good corned beef and pastrami from the deli.
Cook your own. I did a John Morrell last week. It comes ready to go just cook it. I simmer in water for about 2/3 of the time it states (50 minutes per lb) then put on the green egg.
It is a great and easy thing to do. I do them as often as I can find them and now is the time.

Manda makes an awesome one, but very few places carry it.

This is what I really want to do. I'm very limited where i live though, and I'm not sure if they'll have it in the meat department.
And I only want it if it's ready to cook like what you described. I've seen it at my local store but I don't think they carry it all the time

This time of year most chain grocers are carrying them. They are really the best way to go. They are as tender as a woman's heart.
Make some cabbage and peas and just continue Luck and Money.
Cornbread as well.

yep, stores should still have them from New Year's. Limited shouldn't be an issue. Open, rinse, put it a pot of water with the seasoning pack it comes with, and a little liquid crab boil.
The other way I like is to slow roast int he overn - wash, dry, use the seasoning packet (they're so small, I can't imagine it does much, but it's there) some black pepper, granulated garlic, a little brown sugar, in the oven at 250 until tender (a few hours).
That said, this year, most seem to be extremely salty. My mom did hers in the oven, and it was so salty it was almost inedible, until we soaked it in a pot of water for a little while. I boiled mine, no issues. DO NOT ADD SALT.

How long and what temp you running the egg?

I buy a big bagged one from Sams, occasionally. Comes with seasoning packet. As martini said, just make some cabbage & cornbread, have pepper sauce on standby.

Just kind of low for about an hour. Just to give it a bit of BGE flavor. I like them just simmered in water as well. And I have done the oven but I tend to dry it out that way.
