I know where it is from. It was on the front page of reddit, and they have been accurate about the entire season.

They apparently don't like Marshall at all, but I provided the link for reason.

quote:

nope. cannot afford it

This was more for the fun idea of having Brees with an elite WR for the 1st time in his career. I agree that we probably can't afford him, but we would have some options. We could also use it as leverage with Drew Brees in his probable extension this offseason.

If they flat out cut him, I could see the Saints at least inquiring about him. I'd rather pay Marshall and start 3 rookies in the middle or Lelito at center then pay Evans and Grubbs another year's salary.

Money Freeing Moves:

Evans - save $7.5 million
Grubbs - save $6.6
Colston - save $7
Bunkley - save $4.5
Hawthorne - save $4.5
Morstead - save $2.45
Bush - save $1.95 with 0 dead money
Watson - save $1.5 million (probably not worth it, but interesting with the emergence of Hill)

Restructure/Extension
Extension:

Brees - cap hit of 26.4 million. Likely for an extension which would free up a lot of money and convert the base salary to a signing bonus pushing it down the line.

Junior - Restructure/Cut If the charges are dropped, he is 100% likely to be restructured. His cap hit is mainly in 2015 in the form of a roster bonus. You restructure the roster bonus to a signing bonus, and the money gets spread out over the length of the contract. Only $1.25 in base salary for 2015. If the charges stick, some reports state that his roster bonus could be voided if cut. That would save us over $12.5 million. Not sure if that is true. However, he produces and we need him.

Like Loomis said, we actually have more flexibility this year than last year when we signed Byrd.

He didn't have a very good season this year, but not sure how much of that was him and how much was just the Bears offense in general.

Definitely a concern that would hopefully bring his price down as a 30 year old receiver. He did miss some games though and was a 1,000+ yard receiver the previous 7 seasons with 1500 yards in 2012 and 10+ TDs in 2012-2013.

Alshon Jeffrey's stats fell too. Think it was the offense, Cutler, the oline, and the general dysfunction.

The Saints better sign some DB's and leave Marshall alone.

We need to add 1 defensive back and resign Patrick Robinson as our #3 corner.

We should have the space to do both if we wanted, but it would likely mean parting ways with Colston.

The better question is what NT's, ILB, and Guards are available.

If the Saints want a No. 1 receiver, trade up for Cooper.

I think they need OL and DB help first.

So you'd rather trade multiple picks for Cooper (at least two #1 draft picks) for a rookie receiver who looks like he may develop into a receiver that Brandon Marshall has repeatedly proven to be?

I actually don't think we should pick up Marshall b/c I think he's going to demand $12-13+ million/year, but I'd absolutely rather pay him the extra money and draft young, athletic olineman and possibly an OLB than trade away several picks for a rookie WR who may develop into what Brandon Marshall currently is.

I agree, but your counter leaves us with less opportunities to rebuild and is more damaging than money.

Top needs are, in order:

1.) 1-2 Guards
2.) Center
3.) ILB
4.) Corner #2
5.) NT

Guard is one of the easier transitions from college to the NFL. Good ILB don't hit FA, and good NT's rarely do too.

I agree with you. OL and DB are our needs. I was spitballing Cooper.

A WR can be found in the 3rd round plus in FA.

I think you left off a true receiving threat out of the backfield as one of our biggest needs. PT is getting up there and we have nobody with big play ability coming out of the backfield. We've essentially always had his element under the current regime and I think we desperately missed it last year. Truly one of the Pistons that makes the Sean Payton offense run.

we always had a homerun threat with bush and sprolesie. we need that again IMO. But we need lineman first.

I'm all over the Reggie Bush comeback tour.

Still not one of our biggest needs. Why not both?

Nah, Jefferey was better. Unless he's super cheap, we need other positions.

If we were paying lots of money for a headache kinda playmaker than I'd much rather spend on Dez freaking Bryant lol

Hard to believe a team would take him and his contract on, given his behavioral and injury history. Bears get rid of him AND Cutler the same offseason? Man, that's a sign of a total teardown if they do.

Injury history? Lol

And he hasn't been in trouble since getting help for his borderline personality disorder

Marshall is a top 10 NFL WR that we likely cannot afford

Like I said, give me Marshall over JG at the same contract they're currently on any day of the week.

Could he come back for cheap?

He really hasn't made much noise since he left and the market for him isn't really high. I'd love for him to come back and finish his career with us.

If we going to take on a problem take the less expensive problem like Kenny Britt.
