Looking at some Howa rifles for myself currently, but want to keep the cal down for later use by daughter. Obviously a .243 with the minor recoil would be a good choice, but it was also mentioned to me about a 25-06 or 308. Trying to get an idea from others that have experience with the 3. All I've every really shot is a 30-06 and 300.

Thanks for the input

If it were for you .308 it just gives you so many more load options.

However with the intent to be for your daughter to shoot it down the road I would go with a 25-06 it's my favorite light load gun for deer and wonderful for kids.

However with all that said above the official gun of the OB is a .243 so that will win this debate hands down.

my son which is now 15 shoots a .270 and i do as well. I bought some reduced recoil ammo to use until he gets older. The upside is when he's ready he can shoot the 130 gr i use. the reduced recoil he uses kicks about the same maybe less than my .20 gauge with high brass shells.would be worth it to check it out.

.308 all the way. You can always buy reduced recoil loads and still have a better all-around gun.

From what I've seen, the 7mm 08 is not near as powerful as the 308. Plus, all I've seen in the 7mm 08s has been youth models. Would work well for the kid down the road, but not so much for me for the time being.

it's the same cartridge, just a slimmer projectile. Obviously loss of energy transfer, but faster travel. It's a good cartridge, and comes OB recommended.

They have plenty of adult sized 7-08s, just have to venture online to fine them.

The TC Venture was actually another option of mine aside from the Howas. No experience with them myself, but nice to hear some good things about them. I've been shooting the Howa 300 and LOVE it...thats the only reason I was looking at them for this purchase.

Whatever you get, make sure it's a Tikka T3...
