What would be better to build on say a $900 budget? I would want to be able to have a laptop so I can play anywhere. But I can deal with a desktop.

TIA.

$900 isn't going to go nearly as far for a laptop as it would a desktop.

Desktop is far superior, especially at $900. $900 is maybe an entry level gaming laptop.

How much would I need for a decent gaming laptop?

I was really only willing to go up to about $1200. I guess I can build a really good Desktop for that price?

I don't actually have one, but I'd guess $1200 if you find one on sale. If you want a really nice one you will be at $1800+

$1500. You want it to have a 970M minimum nowadays.

Anything really. It's been 4 years since I switched to console gaming and I miss it.

Gotcha. Just asking because if you were just going to play WoW/LoL/DotA/etc. games, you can spend 500-600 bucks and get a desktop PC that will play those at the highest graphical settings and still perform really well.

You could also find a laptop 1200$ or less that could handle those games and still have the mobility.

The Lenovo Y50 has the 860M and is right at 1k$ LINK. That would be enough to play most games that are out now if you're willing to play at 900p for some of the more graphic-intensive games.

Consider the Lenovo Y50 about the best you're gonna get for the $1000 price point in a laptop.

By comparison, here's what you get in a $1000 desktop build.

You can get a 2014 ASUS Rog laptop for $1,000-1,200 with an 860M as well.

Yeah, 860M is the best you will do for $1000. The 860M performs about as well as a desktop GTX 750 Ti. $1200 price point will get you an 870M, performing a bit better than a stock GTX 760.

$1500 will get you a 970M, which is about double the performance of the 860M, particularly in newer games that rely more heavily on vram capacity and bandwidth.

That would be the best option if he could go a bit higher and just really wants a laptop.

OP, I had a gaming laptop for a few years before building a PC last year and I'd just build a PC honestly. The portability is nice to have if you travel quite a bit which I did for a few years, but if you don't travel quite a bit and would want to take it with you, no brainer to build a desktop.

I have the older version and love it. Saw a couple of people with them at Heathrow airport the other day, seems to be a hit for Lenovo.
