80 reviews in from the critics. All of them fresh. 9.0 average rating. I think the movie is coming at a perfect time to be very well received. I will give it a watch for sure, but I am inclined to believe it is being overhyped because of Ferguson and such. Hope I'm wrong, and I hope this movie doesn't try to push white guilt on me.

Maybe we can keep discussion about race off this board? Take it to the political talk board, please.

False portrayal if LBJ should disqualify this fictionalized account from winning anything. You shouldn't be allowed to glorify the legacy of a civil rights leader who was a known womanizer by destroying the character of a president who was in said civil rights leader's side. People learn "history" from movies these days, and the truth is obscured too much in Selma.

Comparing 12 years a Slave to Selma is absurd.

Interested to see it. Any seedy portrayals of civil rights heroes? Raw hero worship?

I like how the Political Board can tear apart a movie like 12 Years A Slave (A film that most, by their own admission had not seen) Yet point out one inaccuracy in a Dinesh D'Souza film and you will be met with

"Did you even see the film? No, Then shut up about it."

Since Oprah co-stars in it I wouldn't be surprised if she is paying for positive reviews & Oscar consideration. Interstellar is the best picture of the year.

It's an Oprah production so fat chance of that.

white guilt for sure. critics are scared to rip a minority movie

12 years was perhaps the most overrated movie of 2013

It was the best movie I saw in 2013, but I admittedly didn't see very many.

I refuse to watch 12 years because I don't want that feeling of white guilt.

12 Years didn't give me white guilt, just human guilt.

It's a racially political film that hit at the perfect time. The Oscars are 85% political so it would be no surprise to see it win best picture. I'm sure Oprah will spend millions upon millions lobbying for it.
