How does technology affect/enhance your daily routine?

Here's where I've become dependent:
Get up, make coffee, shaveshitshower, put on android watch & grab phone.
Get in 1990s 4Runner, phone auto connects via bluetooth to $100 Pioneer radio.
Toss phone in console or in passenger seat.
Google Play starts automatically playing one of my favorite albums or some random mix from the day before.
Geofencing kicks in a block from my house and my wrist vibrates to let me know that WINK has locked my front door and turned off the light in the foyer.
Waze fires up in the background, auto detects i'm on my way to work set to SOUNDS - ALERTS ONLY.
If there's an accident, car on the shoulder or a cop, music monentarily drops and waze tells me "POLICE REPORTED AHEAD". no need to open phone or look at GPS.
If I hate what i'm listening to, I just say "ok google play music" and it fires up another random selection/genre from my library.
phone rings, my wrist vibrates and i swipe to answer without taking hands off the wheels. the pioneer mic is attached to steering column and the acoustics are perfect.
to text someone i simply shake my wrist slightly say 'ok google, text wife please have a sammich and beer ready when i get home' (ok maybe thats not what i say)
I love how ridiculously hooked I am on the 'low dollar' tech. If google does the 'car mode' right, they could take a lesson from some of the daily stuff you want to know like traffic, cops, playing music and locking up your house.

You have a pretty nice setup. I am very much dependent on my phone and car connecting via bluetooth. I'm not sure how "tech" podcasts are since they are really just talk radio using a different distribution method, but they are essential while driving.
Streaming video is nice too, being able to "take" NetFlix with you when you travel is great, you can pick up right where you left off with whatever you were watching.
I think it may be another 5 years before what you're doing now is mainstream. The tech, bluetooth being standard in most cars, and economics, everything you're doing being available via the lowest data plan, aren't quite there yet.

i'm the cheapest of the cheap bastards
lets see, 1998 4Runner
$100 Pioneer DIY head unit (not listing a model since pioneer comes out with a better head unit every year)
$70 wear watch (thanks to this forum)
$300 smart phone (but a $90 moto X would work just as well)
$120 touchscreen deadbolt
99 cent WINK hub
WAZE FREE
GOOGLE MUSIC FREE
WINK APP FREE
TASKER $3
TMOBILE UNLIMITED DATA FOR MUSIC
That's about it. I didn't spend hardly any money on this setup, but its pretty functional.
its also very unassuming..i doubt anyone would look at my 4runner as a target for stereo theft.

Which is why you already have TMobile. When TMobile makes all the other guys match the free music data and rollover, then the economics will probably be there. Bluetooth will probably be the biggest deterrent to adoption as people don't upgrade their cars that often and most do not do the custom installs of radio equipment like you have done. How hard was the install of that Pioneer head unit BTW? Been wanting to add bluetooth to my wife's car.

This is really easy. If you order from Crutchfield, they will send you a step by step guide for your car. My last one took maybe an hour altogether. All you will need outside of what Crutchfield sends you, are some crimp on wire nuts, a crimping/wire stripping tool, and whatever screwdrivers or wrenches it takes to get into your dashboard.

How did you manage this one? Or do you just use it with music that you personally uploaded?

its a helluva lot easier honestly in older cars like my 4runner than newer ones thanks to OEM shite.
what car does she have? single or double din?
like the other poster said, crutchfield is the shite..pay a little more if you're not super comfortable doing this and they'll help you all the way.
its so easy..
step 1: just buy the right harness ($10) for your vehicle, then sit at your kitchen table and splice it to the stereo.
Step 2: unscrew your existing unit and plug the harness in.
step 3: there is no step three

What watch do you have? I want a wear watch but don't really wanna spend a lot of money on it yet... I think better ones will be out this year.

I haven't tried tasker yet... what is your trigger to launch waze? can you share profiles?

LG G (square). its fine for $70ish..got it from best buy's warehouse (cowboom). keep an eye on this:

its ok, normally $200 and it gets full android wear updates so if you like the form factor, keep an eye for when it drops into the $70 range.

watch the video here:

geofencing is the tits for this type of stuff.
this app requires tasker.
eta if you have a motorola device, you can try installing 'smart actions' app from MOTO. its free and can be used to auto launch an app (like WAZE) when you leave your house or when your phone connects to your car stereo.

That's some hardcore automation. I don't leave the house often enough to be compelled to mess with all that, but I do have Tasker. One of these days I'll open it and see what it can do.

other than a simple wink robot that took 30 seconds to setup and a tasker profile, nothing else is auto.
i'm always listening to google music so it comes on when the BT connection is made in the car.

-Cell phone is my alarm clock
-Wake up, ask Google what is the temperature outside
-Listen to Play Music while showering
-Watch TV while eating breakfast
-Head to the gym while listening to music via bluetooth in my car. Google Play Music again.
-Listen to music on bluetooth headphones while working out
-Finished with workout, log workout in MFP via the app.
-Drive to work, Google Play via Bluetooth again. Sometimes talk radio instead.
-Log food throughout the day via MFP app.
-Listen to music on Google Play Music via my web browser at work
-I work at an ISP as a network admin.. IAMTHEINTERNET
-Drive home, Google Play via bluetooth. Sometimes talk radio instead.
-Cooking dinner.. "ok google, set a timer for "x""
-Play video games at home
All of this while texting, answering emails from my phone, calling ,etc. I'd be lost without technology.

Thanks. I set up some profiles in tasker based on BT connection (and day/time) to launch Waze and navigate home/work. Let's see if it works on when I get in the car on my way home.

i always assume when i connect to car BT stereo i'm going somewhere and fire up waze.
i've set the sounds for 'alerts only' so its not too annoying when it overtakes my car stereo.
plus dem waze points you'll be the king in no time.
