You have $1000 to buy a deer rifle and scope - what's your choice?

I'm in this situation right now. $1,000 budget. Give me your recommendations. I want to know what you would be looking at, rifle and scope combo.
Here's my usual hunting situation: shots less than 200 yards, mostly 100 to 150 yards, open field and woods. Thinking .270 or .308.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

What's the rule here, 300 on the gun and 700 on the scope?

With a 1,000 dollar scope you won't even need a rifle to kill deer.

Sound advice.
Invest the money in glass.

Weatherby vanguard s2 in 257 weatherby mag. For long shots I'd get the same gun in 6.5 creedmoor.

Savage 110 trophy hunter combo in . 270 with accutrigger and Nikon scope. It's all you need for those shots and you can use the other $450 for something else.

get the cheapest gun you can go with and vice versa on the scope.... maybe a vanguard then blow the rest on the scope and don't forget to get the best mounts you can afford. put no less than leupold mounts on the rifle.

what?
So you would use an extremely fast, flat shooting round for close up and a not as flat, slower round for long shot?
I'm confused.
ETA: to the OP I just finished a gun that would fit your specifications.

If it is me today, I would spend as much as possible on the rifle that I liked. I would then save money between now and late summer to purchase the scope I wanted. It's not like you are going to get to use it much the rest of this hunting season, so why rush the purchase?
I can't see being cheap on firearm purchases in my older years.

Yea if I already had a decent scope, id spend whatever the rifle in the budget cost and get a nice scope next year.
I don't get the cheap rifle and high dollar scope idea.
