Go to the Alamo, and comment loudly about how Texas' most famous attraction is a monument to LOSING. They love it when you do that.

Riverwalk - the River Cruise is pretty fun if you get a good tour guide. Unfortunately it's completely random who you get. The Riverwalk itself is ok... a few decent bars and overpriced restaurants.

Other things to do:

Sea World
Eat at Mi Tierra, afterwards go walk in the little market behind it
Shopping in San Marcos for the wife, but they also have a Black and Decker store
Natural Bridge Caverns
If it's warm, Schiltterbahn
If it's warm, whitewater raft on the Guadalupe River
If you are driving from the east, stop at the Shiner Brewery
Luckenbach, TX
Fredricksburg for some great German food and the Adr. Nimitz museum

This. In the end, most people's definition of romantic is pretty lame to me and my wife.

Stay at the Emily Morgan Hotel (Hilton property dba Doubletree), located across the street from the Alamo.

I've stayed several times. Supposedly haunted.

Alamo is very lame. It is a 10 minute activity and a boring 10 minutes at that.

Eat at Il Sogno. You will not be disappointed. It is just north of downtown in Pearl district. Also Cured is fantastic restaurant in same area.

I've stayed there several times. Very nice.

In August I'll be staying at the Masion Del Rio which is an Omni property on the riverwalk (attending a conference there).

Wanted to update you guys and ask for a suggestion. We are staying in the Fairfield right by the Alamo. Going to do to the caverns. What would be a better anniversary dinner, FOgo de chao or tower of Americas? Thanks for all the help, it's really helped.

Damn did SA bang ur mom?

Plenty to do here. Most was mentioned. Riverwalk cannot be walked in an hour. That's dumb talk. U want to stop in some Mexican restaurants and sit on the deck and watch the boats pass. Really chill.

Also you have Fredericksburg about 40 miles away. Lots of antique places there and great parks.

Boerne where I live also has some antique shops.

schlitterbon

The Alamo isn't like it use to be. They enclosed it.

There also some cool places to eat. Worlds largest pizza place. Works largest cinnamon roll place. Best bbq in world place.

Mexican Market and eat at La Margarita. Get yourself a couple Clay Skulls and shite from the market while you're there.

Lived in SA for 2 years. Do this. It's a good time and good food. Save one day and drive into Stonewall/Fredericksburg/Johnson City area and hit up Lukenbach. Always a good time. Hit Lyndon B Johnson Reserve as well. Bad arse tours with buffalo axis whitetail mule deer blackbuck elk etc. There are a ton of winery's on 290/281. Also enchanted rock is cool. Or your have new braunfels as well.

The river walk is a tourist trap, but it is fricking beautiful. Just be aware of the pitfalls. I'd try the river walk some during the day and again at night. You might get 2 completely different experiences.

Seconding the Emily Morgan.

I'm down there twice a month and generally fly in on the private plane for a day and back for one of those then down for a week the other trip. Emily Morgan is a great hotel if you don't mind the fact that you have to valet park your car and the ghosts will spoon you in your damn sleep. (Wish I was completely joking about that but that's a longer story)

I generally stay in Hiltons for the rewards and lately I've just been staying in the Hampton Downtown Market Square because it's quiet and they always give me a suite.

If you want good food and want to avoid the tourists then get in the car and go to Pollo Asado Del Nortenos. Yeah, I know, you think you know what that is. You're wrong. That place is freaking orgasmic.

There's some place way down the riverwalk that I ate at recently that I can't remember the name of it but it was a bunch of shipping containers made into basically immobile food trucks where you eat outside. Booze has it's own container.

It was very good and the atmosphere was great.

And then there's the old brewery district that I also can't remember the name of that they've turned into a cool place with a bunch of great restaurants.

I have a lot of employees down there and they basically say go to that Theater downtown and take in a live show with your old lady. Stay across the street and eat at the super expensive steakhouse there. Guaranteed amore.

But I'm generally there only on business so I have to just take their word for it.
