Yeah but if you nail it, you can say "I went all medieval and killed that mfer with a spear". That's gotta rank up there in terms of difficulty and overall badassery

It was done that way for years. Are there better ways, sure. Do I think it's a bit ridiculous, sure. Would I ever try and stop someone who chooses to do it? Nope.
Why use a bow? A gun is far more effective. why use a 300? A .243 is far more effective.

You could say the same thing about bow hunting

The accuracy on a bow is much much higher than a spear.
Its more that than anything.
If you cant shoot a gun worth a shite and wound/lose deer all the time, id probably say you were unethical as well.

You could also say it's unethical to run down a hog with catch dogs then walk up and stab it with a knife. Do I think so? No.
People still hunt with primitive bows. Unethical? No.
It's a challenge.
Years ago it was food.
I doubt I eve try to kill anything with a spear though.

A spear is just as ethical as a .243 as long as the user knows its limits and only takes high percentage opportunities based on his own skill.

I'm all for it. If these guys can creep hogs, barefoot, in the swamp, and stick them with spears...high fives all around.

As long as they do it ethically and legally, I have zero issues with it. It's no different from primitive bowhunting in that regard.

maybe tie themselves to the spear like spear fishermen...go for a ride once in a while...now that's stud spear hunting...

I'm sure it depends on how much you practice with it, just like anything else.

I don't see the problem with it.
