Granny always uses a tomato based red sauce. Those things are ridiculous. The sauce reminds me of the sauce at tony Angelo's

Cabbage rolls might be my favorite holiday meal, but I rarely get to eat them.
I don't know how to make them, so that's my fault. I'm going to add "Learn to make cabbage rolls" to my resolution list.

Tomato sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt to taste. The bugger is breaking down the cabbage and rolling them. I just made 400 breaking down 9 cabbages.

It's just a tomato sauce of your liking. Like I said the real work is making the rolls. It takes me 4-5 hours to make 200 or so .

I make a really simple red sauce.

Isn't it traditionally some type of tomato based sweet and sour sauce? Had some not that long ago and now I'm hooked

An easy cabbage recipe without red sauce. Layer cabbage leaves on baking sheet. Add butter and lots of garlic powder and bacon. Repeat until all of cabbage is used. Bake at 375 until cabbage and bacon are done. Delicious and super simple

Campbell's tomato soup is sweeter than tomato sauce and adds a great flavor to the cabbage rolls. I usually mix my red sauce about half soup and half tomato sauce. Add a splash of acid (such as red wine vinegar) and spices to taste.

When I was a kid my mom was friends with an old Polish nun who used to make amazing food, including cabbage rolls, or "golabki" as she called them. The sauce she made consisted of a can of tomato soup, a can of diced tomatoes, and a can of tomato sauce. She also added a tiny amount of cinnamon to her meat/rice filling mixture. One of my favorite foods.

I used marinara sauce this year and filled the rolls with shrimo boudin filling.
