for him to leave us as a top 10 DC for an in-conference school makes us look really bad to the rest of the nation.

We're all in the mood for a melody.

Good luck stopping LF7 and company next year, Chavis. You know we're going to run it.

ATM doesn't have any good defenders not named Myles Garrett. I would imagine Chavis will field a pretty soft defense. From his perspective he gets paid even if he produces poor results after his contract is up and he is close to retirement anyhow.

Just how does it makes Lsu look bad? Hell Chavis was one of the highest paid DC in the country. Top 2-3 since he been at LSU. sometimes a man wants to move on and sometimes its better for both parties to part ways.

Who cares.
That's what you are concerned about? How we look to the rest of the country?

That's essentially your opinion about the opinion of the rest of the nation. I don't think you can back that up.
I'm paying attention because I'm an LSU fan, but of the hundreds of other people I interact with where I am, nobody else is really concerned one way or the other. So, rest assured-- you will not have to hang your head in disgrace if you travel outside of Louisiana... at least not for Chavis' decision to stay or go.
And for what it's worth, my opinion is that coaches coming and going rarely drums up more than passing interest even amongst college football fans. It is a little more interesting when you know someone is on the hot seat and they do get fired, but a coach moving on rarely draws continued interest until those teams might play one another and then it's just one more story line.
If Chavis stays, so be it. He's a good coordinator and I don't think it's a bad decision. If he goes, I don't think anyone can objectively say it will make us look bad until the following plays out:
a) We find out who replaces him.
b) We find out the short term impact on recruiting, which may or may not be much one way or the other.
c) We have a chance to see the new defense play at least a few games.

quote:Generally true, but this is a very short term perspective and doesn't weigh what improved coaching will do with the current talent. This is a big improvement for A$M's program, no doubt. I think dismissing this is like whistling past the graveyard.
ATM doesn't have any good defenders not named Myles Garrett.
Short term, there will be players who opted out of considering A$M due to not having a respected DC who will now reconsider. While at the same time LSU may feel some negative impact from losing Chavis in this class and possibly beyond. Longer term, A$M can pursue the wealth of local talent in Texas by playing up that you can stay close to home and play in the SEC for a well established DC. Chavis is well known throughout the SEC and will help pull in talent from elsewhere, starting in Louisiana.
How much impact this has on LSU depends on who gets hired (and how quickly for recruiting purposes) plus whether Les will put more emphasis on offensive productivity. I think Les will make a good hire, but am very skeptical about the second part.
