His base salary for the next 3 years are 8, 9, and 10 million. That seems awfully low

Who Brady?

When will Brees deal start to come down? I thought it was heavily front loaded

His actual cap hits are $13, $14, and $15 million as he has a $6 mil signing bonus each year(and each of the numbers in the other post are $1 mil too high).

Also, Brees' deal was heavily back loaded. The first year was very small, then the next two had a big jump(a mil apart from each other), and now these last two take another big jump(a mil apart from each other).

This was intentionally planned because we had to fit him in the first year and new the TV contract would kick in this year. It's also the prime time to do an extension.

Unless Brees is willing to do a deal like Brady did for his team a few years ago, I say let Brees finish out his contract and deal with it in 2 years.

There's a good chance he will perform well and deserve another huge pay day. There's a good chance he will perform not so well and will be in no position to demand $20m per year.

This time around the saints are in a better position to take the risk because Brees is aging.

Brees is his family's entire income.

Sorry but I have to laugh when I see these types of comments regarding professional athletes. It's like when an illiterate football player says..."I gotsa put bread on da table to feeds my famly."

The median family income in America is between $50-60K/year. I'm pretty sure the Brees household will be able to scrape by without Brittany working. It may be tough but I think they can do it if they cut back in a few areas.
