I am wondering if so because the menus were new and rather plain/vanilla compared to their previous "messican" version.

The fajitas which I always rave about were not good at all and were dry.

Hell their bean dip which I love was just plain nasty.

Anybody know what's up?

Wife and I are fairly new to Sugar Land and went to their Lupe just last Sunday for the first time. Had heard good things about the place.

I got the ribs because some Mexican places (Ninfa's) does pretty good ribs with a nice, spicy sauce. Lupe...WAY too bland. Wife got a shrimp/carne/chicken combo for us to split and take the rest home. Shrimp in bacon was good (how can you screw that up), but other stuff, just ok. I wasn't too impressed with the salsa.

There's a place at the intersection of 99 and US 90, near New Territory, that IMO has been the best Mexican we've tried out here so far.

I've always thought the food was mediocre. Plus the founder is a piece of shite that screwed over the people that helped him get Lupe's started.

If I'm on the SW side I would go to Lopez over Lupe's every time. Great food and the founder has to be 80 something yet still walks around greeting people and cleaning up tables.

I always go to the original one In West Houston by the Energy Corridor. It's always on point.

The Beaumont location is awful. Poor service and poor product that is not up to the Lupe standard in Houston (frozen flour tortillas vs. fresh, homemade).

Ate at this one last night and it was just as good "food wise" as the ones in Houston. My friend lives in Houston and Lupe is always a staple for us. It's hands down the best beef fajitas anywhere I've had for sure. If you are ever around Houston, you must go. The tortillas are so good.

IL let you in on a secret. Hit up Ullas on hwy6. Awesome Mexican food. Manager previously worked at lupes. Most well run restaurant I've ever seen.

another secret: with 6 el tiempo locations around houston, there is no need to worry about the quality of lupe tortilla's fajitas.

I'll second what Ryno said! Best fajitas I have ever had and the staff is top notch. Best service I have ever had at a restaurant that wasn't a mega upscale New Orleans or Houston restaurant. Ula's is great.

Nobody is driving 40 minutes down to Missouri City to eat Mexican food. Especially when Hoggs and Chicks is right across the street from Ula's.

...Ula's is a good little spot though.
