How much do you pay for your duck lease?

Thinking about trying to get something for next year. I know it differs depending on area and a million other things. Do you lease a blind, do you lease acreage? How does it work?

A coworker is asking for me to get into a lease next year. 6k for 100 ares. It's a crawfish pond on 190. How many people would you hunt there? How many blinds? Does 6k sound reasonable?

I'm getting kind of tired of deer hunting, so I thought I would give ducks a try. I don't have any face paint yet, but I can sky blast them with the best of them.

Where is it?

That's probably about average depending.

But to answer the question, zero. Hunt hundreds of acres of family land. It's a blessing

That's likely a 3-4 man blind. I'm assuming you could could from levees if you wanted. 190 could mean could or bad depending where it is. Crawfish ain't the best for geese.

$0

We have a blind on a public lake within 45 minutes of my house and do just as well as the guys paying $5k/year most of the time.

maybe 2 blinds at the absolute most and it depends on where they sit compared to land boundaries and who is next to you.

Crawfish ponds are great for gees at certain times....crawfish farmers HATE geese becasue they want that stubble to stay in there ponds for the crawfish and a large group of geese shitting in the water makes it toxic.

I'm fighting geese out of my landowners ponds as we speak.

6k total for 100 acres. He's just trying to put feelers out right now, to see if he could get enough people to go in with him. I think he said the guys name was crawfish...

Since I don't know anything about it now, i'd rather have my own place to go mess around on and see how I like it. I don't really know any public places, and from the stories here, I don't think I would like to start off fighting the crowds.

Yea geese will take to crawfish ponds and ruin them in a hurry but it's a lot easier to call then down into a stubble field

I think you have to decide where you want to hunt first. Example--we lease about 1300 acres south of 90 off of the Atch River. It's wild out there and a lot different from hunting a manicured rice field. You have to put a lot of work into scouting, blind set up, maintaining your ponds , etc but it's worth it. Cheaper than ponds, but you have the option to hunt your own land or state land if birds aren't on yours.

Cash's Crawfish Farm is on 190 before you get to Erwinville coming from Baton Rouge.

He wanted 10k last year for a field. No pit blinds so we used layout blinds. Ten of us got in it. We might have killed 4 ducks total. It was horrible.

I don't mind working, but it's all new to me. You could give me 1300 acres, but I wouldn't know what to do with it.

Hwy 190 around Erwinville. It would be less than 40 minutes from my house, that's pretty appealing.

Looks like a good spot being close to the river, but I think a lot of birds make the turn at Catahoula and start heading towards SWLA South of Alexandria. Thus, the area in question gets bypassed for a shorter route. Sure you'll get a few, but that's not in what I'd call the "main flyway" of Louisiana.

We did see some birds there however it would be 15-20 mins after shooting time in the evening. We would shine our q beams and see them flying everywhere. Then we would be back out first thing in the morning and nothing.

It was like they were rolling out in the middle of the night.

They did have some specks out there and I rode by in Feb and the whole place was crawling with them.

Our field and the front two were rice fields.
I think part of the problem was 90% of
All agriculture in the area is sugarcane.

And the fact is asking 6k after charging us 10k last year tells me that word has gotten out about his place and he is having a hard time finding someone to lease it.

They did have a few monster deer out there however.
