it seems like next year if danielle leaves our personnel will be perfectly suited for the 3-4 with Lacouture Godchaux Bain Thomas playing DT and one DE position and Herron playing DE then having Tuehema move to OLB with Kwon and lamar Louis and clifton garret and beckwith at MLB

any chance we go to the 3-4?

Zero chance.

You could have made a decent point by pointing out Valentine would make a good nose tackle. But alas, I'm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about.

yeah forgot about him since he's not on the depth chart..perfect fit at NT

ETA: yeah I no we won't actually do it but considering personnel wouldn't it be a good fit

Eh, probably not. The DTs we've been signing are 1 gap guys. (ETA- Valentine being the obvious exception but he'll fit in any D big as he is)

But I'll allow that the idea of CG3 and Beckwith side by side at ILB is intriguing.

But anyway, our base defense vs. most opponents is the 3-2-6 Mustang.

I think you will get shite on for this, for a number of reasons.

1. Chavis is a 4-3 guy, so this obviously won't happen
2. Debth will be a huge issue especially at MLB (we would be like 1 deep)
3. we don't know who these DE what would probably end up at OLB would adjust to falling into coverage.

The pros-
we recruits DE that eventually end up as 3-4 linebackers anyway
IT would be cool to see Garretty and Beckwith get on the field at the same time
The DLine has guys that look like they could play NT and some that could [lay DE in a 3-4.

But there is a 0% chance it will happen unless Chief decides frick it I am going to Texas A&M and we get a 3-4 guy.

Wrong, dude. We're perfect for a 2-3-4-2. Just imagine the fricking possibilities.

Agree, its not traditional, but the three part is a pretty common theme...

I thought the sane posters on here debunked this idea in September and October.

thats more of a personnel package and we generally only use it against spread offenses...we run a base 4-3

Ask the question, should LSU run the triple option? Bring on the nattys if they do.

I'm not disagreeing with you ... but most opponents are running a spread these days. And we go to it on passing downs vs. all opponents.

It's a personnel package... that is also our de facto base D. Nominally, yes, the 4-3 is our base. But the Mustang has been the backbone of Chavis's D at LSU for the past few years.

Spurrier's new 3-4 defense worked wonders against Texas A&M week 1.

No chance at all. Why not? Because Chavis doesn't run it.

And if we were ever gonna run a 3 man front, it would have been the 2011 and 2012 seasons and having Mingo play as the OLB.

And the most important position in the 3-4 is the nose tackle. We don't have one.

And you do realize you listed 5 LBs?

This is so dumb. You don't change schemes bases on one years talent.

Some of you.....smfh
