I've been dragged to things because of children... and now grandchildren and I'm ok because if it's dull as crap, stupid or some combination of the two I can just sleep through it...

but this is something connected to a story and music that I really liked so it was hard to ignore. I have done theater and Annie was one of my favorite musicals to take part in a while back.

If anyone wasted TWO HOURS (seriously 2 hours) of their life on this and disagree, let me know, maybe I'm just old and grumpy. Putting a hip hop beat to an old melody is ok, I can go with that. Auto-tuning, I get a rattled... but literally butchering classic songs and inserting different modern choruses? F*ck this movie!

Well, I was never crazy about it in the first place. I'm not much of a fan of musicals in general. So I guess I will be spared "hating" this one.

In case you're new to theater, multi racial casting is common place so as long as the story is good who cares? (heck my only complaint is when they don't keep it consistent... like some iterations of Les Mis have young Eponine white and then grown up Eponine black). In fact if you can make the race difference open up the story to new possibilities it can work even better. Heck, Asian Annie in a ChinaTown setting would be very interesting.

But this movie fails on all counts. It even fails as "black annie" since she and Jamie Foxx are pretty much the only two black people in it.... aside from the limo driver. The Wiz, this is not.

The musical numbers are hit or miss. Overall, a solid flick, how can you hate on vintage MJ?

I'd be pissed if it was a white blonde girl. Annie is synonymous with being a ginger. She an iconic part of cinema

i watched this at least 3 times with my 4 year old goddaughter this week because she loved it (and i was the cool uncle whose house we could watch the new annie at)

have no problem with the movie other than cameron diaz way overacts. love the fact that she just sees it as a new movie and has no concept that annie is black

Annie is supposed to have red HAIR. This has nothing to do with the color of her skin.

i love the big "frick you" at the beginning of the movie with the traditional Annie in the class giving the cheesy essay.

Annie is supposed to be an orphan that sings, and thats it

I'll watch it as soon as they cast Brad Pitt as Shaft in a movie.

Just glad it's out so the trailer can stop playing in front of Every. Single Movie. for the past 2 years.

I swear that thing was in front of everything from the rerelease of Lion King like 18 months ago and Edge of Tomorrow and John Wick.

You do understand the difference between the entire story being based on the person being a certain race and race just being incidental...don't you?
