Stringer needed Avon though, he wasnt hard enough
the co-op would have sorted all that out
even marlow. he would have never had the opportunity to do what he did in season 4-5 if avon hadn't fricked shite up

This shoukd be it's own thread..
Reminds me of when omar was in court testifying and he called Omar a parasite of the system, and omar said,"just like you.. I gots the shotgun and you got the briefcase"

season 2 was just rushed and jumbled. it wasn't supposed to be that way. season 1 was super epic, doe

Yeah, he could have stepped away then. He didn't. But that's the thing, it wasn't really about just making money. There's always someone out there who wants that power more than anything. It was Avon. You saw it with Marlo later. It wasn't just about making money in that industry, and Stringer had to learn that the hard way. He also got his arse played by Clay Davis. He really had a list of errors, even if they looked good on paper.

and that's the trap avon fell into, not stringer

yes he did...and he wasn't the first, and i doubt he'd do it again. $250k is nothing for a guy like that.
that was his only error. the rest of the drama, and the ultimate dissolution of their empire, was due to avon's errors

He was trying too damn hard to be a businessman and bring peace with the New Day co-op. Avon was just a gangsta (i suppose) and thats how you win out in the ruthless world of the drug trade. You get corners, you wipe out the competition, and you win. You don't share profits and work together, cause someone is always gonna want more. It's kinda a prisoners dilemma.

not particularly, seeing as he lost, too

not working together (due to avon's disruption) is what led to the destruction of the co-op, though

Pretty much. That's why Marlo, the most cold-blooded of the gangstas, did so well so fast.

That was inevitable though with the co-op. There's always an incentive to say "frick the truce" and wipe out the competition. Someone was gonna do it eventually (See Marlo).
Avon lost out because Stringer fricked him over, and vice versa. But at the end of the day Stringer stopped giving a shite about the streets and tried to hard to bring peace. They were losing corners and losing the best product and Stringer thought he could just be a diplomat.
Aight. I'm about to go watch Stringer get shot on HBO. Best episode of the wire, I think. Classic scene right here with Stringer and Avon talking for the last time.

Yep, also with Stringer gone (and Avon locked up) no one else in the co-op had the muscle or will to make sure no one took over the group.
I also think Stringer needed a smart #2 to be his street man and have his back, not just a hitter, but someone who could handle the "business" side as well (maybe this could have been Cutty, but thankfully he got out). Stringer failed in part because he didn't have a person to play the role he played for Avon.

no it wasn't.

the only person who had that incentive was prop joe, and he's the one who built the co-op

what? bell got them the good product, which is the only reason they weren't wiped out before avon got out of jail

yeah the co-op worked with the barksdale crew running the west and prop joe running the east. avon fricking it up left a power vacuum
