I hope so too. In all honesty (believe me or not) he was a big damn deer. I won't know for sure how big unless I get him down...for good. Like I said in the other post. These big of deer are not that uncommon in the West Carroll parish area. There are a handful of that size killed every year here. Anyone that lives here and hunts here will tell you the same. A state record was killed less than two miles from where I live. Not saying this one would do that, but he sure would go nice on my wall.

I also witnessed a friend of mine shoot a nice 135" 11 point from 70 yards with a 270 and drop him in his tracks. 10 minutes later, after the deer hadn't even flinched while on the ground, we walked up to it and the damn thing jumped up and took off running like he'd never been hit. My buddy shot him in the back of the head before he got away though.

Where did the first shot hit?

I'd like nothing more than for dayne o to shoot this deer, perform an autopsy to find out what happened when he first shot it, then post a picture, and finally, have this deer scored.

That would be awesome!

dayne o you need to plan how to authenticate the possible re-harvesting of this deer ......no way any of us will believe it if you just post up a pic of some truly 150"+ beast that happened to have your bullet not pass through

Maybe me and some of my trashy buddies could come run dogs on your place as witnesses?

It would have to wait until next year. Rifle season closes tomorrow. I would love to put a pack out there for the last few days of the season. You would not be disappointed. It just sucks that they close it so early up there. We usually don't start getting pictures of the bigger bucks until around the first of Dec. And even then they are just nocturnal mostly. You have just about a week (during the rut) to stand a good chance of seeing one. It's like they show up out of nowhere. It has been like this for the last four years or so.

You are alright in my book, I don't care what KR says,

or how bad of a shot you may be,

or whether you don't know how to score deer the "right" way,

or that you may have an anger issue based on your respectfully telling folks to frick off

A spade is a spade. Because I don't post on here a lot I'm not a good hunter or capable of seeing big deer. That is only for the OB royalty.

I would have shot him right up the arse.

Sounds like you hit him high above the shoulder but missed his spine. It was just enough shock to temporarly paralize him.

Never happen. You are not allowed to. They only issue out just a few for the highly active members. Or you must have the most up to date an newest technologically advanced equipment. It's in the user agreement.

It was about ten years ago and I'm not positive, but pretty sure it was right through the front shoulders. Don't remember what kind of bullet he was shooting either.

Shot the left antler clean off his head though on the second shot.

So this mature buck returned to the same area where he was shot / injured, during daylight hours, just 2-3 days after being shot?

With all due respect. He was shot on Christmas Eve. He didnt want to be a dick deer and went to spend the holiday with his deer family in the briars that he had to crawl through. He is now free to roam the big woods again.

I hit a deer while driving 45 mph and it put $5,600 damage on my front end of my car. It came out of the woods and appeared so quickly in front of me I did not hi the breaks until after impact. It flipped into the air and landed on the opposite side of the road it came from. It stood, paused for a couple of seconds, then hauled arse up a hill into the woods. I was amazed it was not dead on impact.
