Gargling with warm salt water is your best bet. I've had sore throats for years and they aren't kidding about the no remedy thing.

Equal parts Listerine, liquid Benadril and peroxide. Gargle.
Has knocked out every sore throat I've gotten...

However, when my throat is irritated due to nasal drainage, I just try to numb it with (as mentioned in this thread) Throat Coat tea with lemon and honey or by sipping some warm whiskey.

Good luck. Sore throats are the worst.

Fill 1/4 glass of vinegar and the rest warm water. Add some salt too, teaspoon to a tbsp worth. Gargle it.

Put a tbsp of honey and a tbsp of Apple cider vinegar in a coffee cup of hot water. Drink it.

Both work wonders and help you get over it fast
