2 glasses of hot green tea. Each glass with a tablespoon of local honey and 2 shots of makers mark. When I feel a cold coming on, I drink that every night and don't get sick. If I already have a sore throat, that knocks it out in a couple hours with no additional care needed.

I typically keep some sucrets around just for that reason, as they last from year to year and get rid of the pain without just loading you up with chemicals...
to answer your question, I typically keep a bottle of one of the honey liquors (american honey or jack daniels honey)around..when my throat starts hurting too much, I put a little in a coffee cup and warm it in the microwave to sip...it is not a cure, but is sure makes things feel better temporarily...

This works well if the problem is bacterial. Otherwise, not so much.

if home remedies worked, they wouldn't make so much money on otc stuff.

Gargle with hydrogen peroxide. That stuff kills anything.

Smoke a blunt, that brown paper will coat your throat
