Nakamichi. Once upon a time they made quality cassette decks and one of the RDATS ever built.
And it goes deeper than that. They also had some great power and preamps.

The Nakamichi name today is a mere chinese owned shadow of its former glory.
Example: Sears sells Nakamichi TV sound bars. So fricking pathetic.

I thought of another. Oldsmobile.

Scotch/3m videotape and audio mastering tape (996, 226, 806, etc ).
Ampex is another and they still exist as a data storage company only.

Not even close to being the ugliest car ever made. That honor goes to another division of GM...Saturn. With the exception of their final year or two, everything they made looked absolutely terrible.
